I keep getting this error in the post screen claiming my slave drive could fail at any time.. I have run the powermax program from maxtor and it does pass the advanced test but fails some of the instalation tests... Partition info = absent and smart attribute check = fail.... :confused: Any way to fix this ?
 
you fix it with a trip to compusa and your visa card. or get the drive rma'd.
 
If the drive is dying, what do you expect for an answer? You probably don't have the parts, machines, or anything needed to fix it. Harddrives go bad, accept that, deal with, they are mechanical. It's not a matter of if they go bad, it's when.

Maybe I expected you to tell me something I don't already know instead of stating the obvious.
 
A SMART error is all you need to get the drive RMA'd. And believe me, if you get one it will go bad. It could die a minute or it could be a year, but your data isn't safe on that drive any longer. When SMART determines that the drive isn't reliable, not can be done to suddenly make it reliable again. There is no other responsible answer, obvious or otherwise. You need to get your data off there ASAP. If you can't do that right away, uplug the drive from the PSU and mobo, but avoid transporting it if possible. Even if you don't think that the data on the drive is valuable, the official answer is to avoid using it to prevent damage to other components.

There are some great deals for hard drives right now, and price per MB is more or less stabilizing. It's a great time to upgrade, and an RMA replacement should be easy to unload. Check out the 200GB Seagate 7200.7 for $60 after rebate from Fry's/Outpost. The Samsung 1614C is an excellent all around SATA and is readily available under $100 at newegg and the usual suspects. Just yesterday I got a 250GB 16MB cache Maxtor for $115 from a Hot Deal in this forum.
