I have a feeling I may need to maky my own for this, but I'm looking ffor the smallest Matx case possible for an upcoming pfsense build.

I've been looking for cheap old 1u server cases, but havn't had any luck there, need room for an Matx board, and the cheapest sfx psu I can get my hands on heh. Maybe a low profile nic.

Anyone know of anything?

Why does it need to be "smallest" and not just "small"? If it will reside anywhere near human beings, a 1U case is a bad choice because of the screaming little fans.

I've always liked the old Antec NSK3480 for a smaller microATX tower case. Much smaller than my Fractal Design Define Mini, although I really love the Define Mini. How about the Antec Minuet 350 at just 3.80" x 12.80" x 16.80"?

That looks like a nice size with the area I have to work with, thank you :)

wouldn't it be easier to grab a cheap-ish NUC type box and not need to worry about building or size?

It's probably not the smallest, but the Define Mini C is the most of the space efficient MicroATX towers out there: http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/define-series/define-mini-c

If all you're wanting to fit is a motherboard, nic and SFX PSU though, ITX might be the more suitable path, in which case the Node 202 may be more what you're looking for: http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/node-series/node-202-integra-sfx-450w-psu

I would never cheap out on the PSU for any size build though. An unreliable PSU can lead to some major grief, including unexplained errors, instability, and/or total failure that may or may not take the rest of the system down with it. Regardless of who you get your PSU from, make sure you check the reviews first.

Thanks so much, I've planned on going ITX for the pfsense box, but a deal popped up for an embedded mATX board that was pretty good, that's why I was looking for options.

I absolutely LOVE the Node 202, been planning on using it for my new HTPC build for a while now. So sexy to go into the entertainment rack

Depending on what kind of small you need, the Silverstone FT03 might be a good choice. It has a really small footprint and can sit against the wall since the cables come out the top. It is fairly tall though.
