I was going to play Gunbound with some friends, when they tell me theres a new version of the client to be downloaded. So I head to the official site (or at least I think it's the official site) at www.softnyx.com
After loading up the flash intro for their site, I noticed a new process is turned on in my task manager, ctfmon.exe
Google says it's the " Alternative User Input Services" for various things, such as the Microsoft Office XP Language Bar. Now, the thing is, I don't have Office XP installed, I never did. Since softnyx.com is a Korean site (all in Korean virtually no English) I figured some language pack tried to loadup in Firefox which loaded ctfmon.exe (the actual language bar thing did show up on my task bar).
Also googling ctfmon.exe takes you to a MS knowledge base which has a method for removing it, if you want to. Except it's for if you have Office XP installed already, I don't, never did. Aside from simply deleting it (and it's copies) I dunno what's up with that. Norton and other AV programs say ctfmon.exe isn't a virus, and no spyware scanner picks up on it, so I assume it's the legit copy.
After telling msconfig to not load it anymore, I load up the Services control panel, but I notice something very, very strange:
See the "description" text? It's suddenly uber tiny. The window is maximized on my screen, I checked to make sure none of my XP font settings were changed, they are fine in every other program I use. This part is kinda freaking me out cause like, that text is unreadable...
System scanned for viruses, clean. System scanned for spyware, clean. Used various scanners to double check.
Specs:
PIII 600 Mhz
512 MB
Ge4 MX 4000
80 GB Maxtor
Windows XP SP 2
I'm sure it's probably nothing, but all these weird little things happening at once kinda are freaking me...
