Small pump in high flow system

I was thinking of getting a Swiftech MCP350 pump for a loop containing a Swiftech Storm and black ice pro 2x120 rad. Then I find out the pump only has 3/8" barbs. Can I install 3/8 to 1/2 barb adapters without hurting performance on my 1/2" loop?
 
You could just get 3/8" barbs for your storm and radiator. Or you could get converters as you said. Will using 3/8" barbs or reducers hurt your performance...yes there is no way around it. However the difference should be relatively minimal, especially if you go with a 1/2" loop and converters.
 
yes, that pump will work in a 1/2" loop. there are higher flowing pumps out there but not in that size. personally i love that pump, its got great head and plenty of flow for most situations. if you REALLY want more flow and you got the space grab a D4 or an Aquaextreme 50z.
 
You could get the acrylic top for it and put 1/2" barbs on that pump and pick up a very nice flow increase and not have to use converters at all.
 
Madmat, could you point me to where I could find an acrylic top for the pump?
 
I wish I could but I'm not finding it. Someone in this sub forum had linked to a site selling the premodded DDC12V and the conversion parts, hopefully they'll read this thread and help out.
 
shouldnt make that much of a diff, if i turn my 655 down to 1, idle temp goes up 1C and load is 1-2C higher than at 5
 
This mod nearly doubles the free flow (IIRC) and increases the max head of the pump while still keeping it quiet.

It might not be that high but it was a rather substantial increase in flow.
 
First of all, Dark Fire I believe we have already discussed the reasons behind the small temperature gain with your system. The Storm unfortunately is not a flow agnostic block, while it still performs well at low flows it will see a more noticeable difference between flowrates than the Apogee.

Madmat: The modification to the DDC actually decreases the head pressure while increasing the flow by about 70%.
