small lcd/e-paper type devices that hold image without constant power?

Hi, I am looking for various options for screens that will hold their image without needing any power. By this i mean you can apply a charge to change the image but once it is changed power can be removed and the image will remain. The screen only needs to be around 1X1 inch, doesnt have to be very high res, and can be black and white. I was wondering if anyone knew where to start looking/what types of screen offer this functionality.

About all I can think of are the proposed ways to for next-gen newspaper and printed material devices. Involved a sheet of small balls that were painted half white and half black with each side negative or positive. When ran through a machine it would alter which half was showing. Thats about all I can think of lol.

Yah that is basically what I had heard of too, but I figured there would be something out that just made an average image without needing power to keep it on screen...
