Hello. Basically, what I am trying to do is create a picture frame that will cycle through pictures from a small LCD screen. I figure that the easiest way, from what I have been told, as far as the software is concerned is a combo of a flickr account to store the images and slickr to cycle through those images. I was told by a few friends that that would likely be the easiest way to go about it.

Which leaves me to the hardware solution. I have two old laptops that are basically sitting in my closet gathering dust, but both of them have a 14.1" display which is far too large for what I was going for. I was thinking then about going ahead with purchasing something like a 7 or 8 inch lcd display from earthlcd or case-mods sites, but Im not exactly sure how something of this nature would integrate into my software solution.

If I ended up getting say a 7 inch lcd screen that connected to my computer through a controller card, Im not sure exactly how to integrate that with any software solution that I have heard and I dont really want to waste the money buying things only to have to buy other things to make it work instead as I wouldnt really like to waste that much money on this.

Does anyone have any idea's? I would love to hear anything anyone has to say.

Thanks,
-Brian

how about a psone lcd? i saw them used several times for such or similar projects.

I could do something like that, but I kind of wanted to tinker with it a bit myself a little bit more than something like that would allow. On top of that, I just think its easier when its something thats done nicely home made so that if anything doesnt seem to work I can just go in and fix it myself or replace the broken parts or whatever and not have to deal with a warranty.

I have everything figured out pretty much except I need a good 7" LCD :(

One edition of PC Magazine showed you how to build exactly what you ar use trying to do. They used a old laptop. Try to go to www.pcmag.com and I think it was under the build it section. I could try to find the issue at my house if you need me to.

Thats where I got the idea from :) I had thought about doing it for a couple of years as a friend of mine has a couple that he bought around the house, but I never really decided to for sure until I saw it there. Im pretty much following that plan except that I want it to go to a 7 incher instead of all my old laptops screens of 14.1" and a few other misc changes.

I could just go buy one like suggested, but its kind of like building your own computer. Just the fun of tinkering around. Its like lego's but for adults haha

Except... it wont be like building my own computer as it probably wont be cheaper ;)

There's this thing:

This one is basically an updated PSone screen

If you're good with electronics and what not, then try looking around here:

I don't know if the store is any good. I found it one night when I was looking for a place to buy small LCDs to replace my PSone (cause I burnt it out lol). They seem to have a lot of choices, but I don't see controller cards.

I looked into those because I heard that those are what many people have used as far as smaller lcd's go, but I would really like somethign that is closer to a 7" lcd since that would be closer to the size of a normal picture frame as opposed to a 5 inch model. Trouble is finding a 7in lcd thats any good at all that that is under the price that I want to spend. While that isnt a set $94 or any set number at all, just havent found anything that feels right yet as far as price-quality-size ratio is concerned. If worse comes to worst, I suppose I will just go with a 5.6" psone screen like that, so thank you very much for that link, thats a pretty good price from what I have seen.

I guess what I really just need is any advice on who makes a good 7 inch color LCD display that would work for something of this nature, so if anyone knows of such a company or such a screen and where to get it, please let me know.

As always, thanks to anyone who has anythign to share!

That is much more of what I am looking for. Im going to look around and see if I can find it or similar for a better price. If anyone happens to know of such a place, let me know.
Thanks again everyone!
