May need to re-purpose my TEAC unit to my TV since I think the Yamaha died, I see some nice small units on here a few times, all i need is 2x50w stereo preferably with a sub out so i don't need a sub with the high level inputs again if i need to replace mine

suggestions?
 
sub out makes it more of a b*tch to find something... small especially


budget would probably help


but Accessories4Less is a authorized dealer for a few different brands (marantz, Denon, Teac..Onkyo... i think) and has a bunch of refurbs reasonably inexpensive they might have something that would work?
 
up to 250 would be as much as id want to spend and that point i might as well but a 5.1 airplay receiver for the tv
 
About 2 weeks ago my wife and i made an "unplanned" a/v receiver purchase ... the POS sony we had before was borrowed and we had to give it back (which was FINE with me) but blah blah

we went to fry's and got a Yamaha RX-V573 7.1 receiver on sale for $299 it is fantastic and has airplay and network (network stuff is honestly pretty damn clunky however) but the sound quality is excellent ...so if you decide to go get a new receiver I'd certainly suggest looking for deals on the Yammy like I got....I absolutely love it... it makes the Sony we had been using seem like a massive steaming pile by comparison to be sure (granting not a super hard task as that sony was awful..but.. I have a few vintage amps and receivers and the RX-V573 compares nicely with them to.)
 
oh and the RX-V473 5.1 receiver is supposedly pretty close SQ wise and feature wise but is only 5.1 so if you found that one on sale it would probably be a great choice also.
 
i was thinking of that emotiva also it has line out not sub out so if he gets it and wants to use the line out for the sub his speakers will still being trying to go full range.. which is kind of a bummer but maybe?

certainly seems to be nice... there is also the Dayton DTA-150 to consider as well.
 
That sub won't high-pass the speakers and most stand alone amps in the budget won't have a sub out and high-pass filter. Without an AV receiver or a software cross-over for your sound card the speakers will be getting full-range audio. Its not the end of the world though if you don't play stuff too loud.

As long as you keep the volume moderate you can use a T-amp to power the speakers and split the audio off the the sub using speaker wire and the speaker level inputs on the back.
