I would like to get something like a synology or perhaps a distro of linux on something like an HP Microserver to backup a small business. I would like it to be a backup target for all the workstations as well as servers. We would need about 4TB of space. I would also like to be able to back the NAS up to a cloud service such as crashplan. Looking for suggestions. Thanks.

I would recommend a synology just based on support alone. Remember this is a business and you don't use open source software to support critical business data.(Unless you are 100% confortable with no support and figuring it out yourself 100% of the time)

That is just it, I would much rather have a set and forget solution. I just want it to work. Do all synology's support backup to a cloud service? Is there a service you would recommend?

The DS415+ I'm using supports the following cloud backup servers:
1. Amazon S3
2. MS Azure
3. CHT Hicloud S3
4. SFR NAS Backup.

Otherwise, out of the box, the Synology also supports rsync compatible servers for possible cloud backup.

Not sure if there are other 3rd party programs/packages that will support other servers.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions on a Synology, I could try to look up the settings on mine.

I honestly really dont care which cloud backup solution we use as long as the price is reasonable and it just works. Amazon s3 was actually my first thought. We have about 4TB of data I am not sure what that would cost us with amazon.

I thinking of just using two synologies to replicate to each other now.

Can you make an exact copy of a desktop or server than can be restored with a synology?
