A few days ago, I changed my FileServer from Vista x64 HP to XP x64 Professional.

While I am very happy with the general performane and stability of XP x64, i have hit a problem.

Since the change over, it seems my desktop is sluggish at full cpu load.
When moving an open window, the window jerks a little and seems to jump rather then slide gracefully .... clicking on Start is smooth though

I have one GPU Client (ATI 4850) & one Uniprocessor Client.

At first, I thought the GPU client might be causing the problem, so I closed it down, and the problem went away, but .... I also tried closing the CPU client instead, and it also went away ..

I have the exact same setup on the Vista x64 configuration and did not see this issue.

I can only assume that when running both clients, the cleints are not are releasing enough CPU cycles causing the desktop to act that way ... but that is only a guess

Any Ideas or Suggestions?

I haven't had anything like that using XP64. But I'm using a quad not a dual core. Using 1 instance of VMWare, 1 console, and 1 4870. Although I'm using CAT 8.11 not 8.12.. 8.12 kept giving me EUEs

I went a "googleing" and did read some posts about incorrect drivers causing this issue.
Most posts talk about making sure the chipset drivers are update and the most recent.

When I get home, I will update my chipset drivres just to be sure.
Maybe that will solve it, not sure??

I also rembered I never updated my drivers for my RAID card.
I don't have any data on the array but that default driver windows is using might also be causing an issue.

Going to see if that helps the situation any ....

Well, It seems that the Bill2 Process Manager was causing the lag.

I was using it to keep the two clients on seperate CPU cores, and it worked well.

I uninstalled the program and rebooted, and restarted the clients .. all is good now ..

Since my E6420 (B2 rev) is getting a little dated in the server..

I snagged myself an Xeon X3350 E0 rev (same as the Q9450) off ebay for $180.00 ...

Based on the reviews I have seen, power consumption should be around the same levels which is nice ....

Hmm..., something else to worry about (only kiddin' :p) I have WinXP64 on my 24/7 E6600 with a eVGA 8800GS video card with the 64 bit 180.48 driver :)

I have Ubuntu v8.04 on my 24/7 E6420, but no "CUDA" capable card (it's 100% WCG) One of my quads has a eVGA 9600GSO and it gets about the same ppd as the eVGA 8800GS with the same shader OC'. :D

I know this is a dumb question, but are you sure your using the 64 bit driver?

Yeah its 64-bit.. but I'm using an ATI card in this box.. not nvidia
