I am wondering what you guys would consider to be too slow to fold. I have a few microsoft, linux and a mac box here I use for network and script testing. Since they are up 24/7 I figured to throw f@h on them. I understand that my XP boxes turn out 3 times as much but wth. Is there a theoretical limit to it being useful?

the extra boxes are:

mac g4 sawtooth 500
micron p2 400 with server 2k3
gateway ns 7000 with dual p233's running smp linux distro

are these wasting my time or not? if they are I will probably start shutting them down to save on electricity, even though my 2 xp mobile boxes are drawing 3 times as much.

What do you all consider a cutoff for processor spec here?

I believe the deadlines are made so a p2 450 can meet them. You can also request timeless WU which don't have deadlines for even slower boxes, but becase of power consumption, heating, and labor, I wouldn't bother with anything slower than a p2 450 unless it will be running regardless for router/firewall/fileserver etc.

Those are pretty slow, but like the last poster said, configure them to get timeless work units and all is not lost.

Hey, they'll be on all the time anyways, so what the heck.

What about a celeron 800mhz?? i am building one as we speek, just waiting 4 a 370 board
will that make dead lines?

I run a 800 P3 in my main machine, which I am on a lot. It meets deadlines, often finishing before the unit is due. It takes a bit of time though. I've had some units that have taken about a week to finish.
