What are you guys getting for frame times for Project: 2610 (Run 1, Clone 87, Gen 0)? This unit is going way slower than other 2610s. It's taking as long as the 2653s but for fewer points. They tweaked something.

Q6600 @ 3.5 GHz:

I think if you track it carefully you will see as time goes on the work will get more involved (read slower) and will be worth fewer and fewer points.

If memory serves way back in the day the max points per unit were something like 5 each. If you take a look at work units turned in vs points there is a big disparity between the newer members and old timers.

All that said, this is a normal progression so don't be alarmed, just keep on folding for the cause;)

I understand how the points system works and I'm not alarmed. Have you gotten this work unit? How are your frame times?

The 2653s always run faster on my machines than the 2608/09/10s. Moreover, I have noticed that WUs of the same protein tend to take longer to complete over time. Stanford probably issues slower WUs gradually, even of the same protein.

I have Q6600 @3.35Ghz and my average times are
WU Time
2610 6:00
2653 8:20

^ Interesting. Well, I run only AMD hardware and the 2653s can be completed before the deadline by a dual Barton machine, but the 2610s can't.

Mwhahahaha! Leme go get my flame thrower!!!:D

Thats likely because 2610 are much slower on CPU with small cache - before going for Q6600 (2x4MB cache) I used E4400 (2MB cache) and 2610 were 20 minutes per %.

So, what you're saying is that 2610s are faster on Intel, slower on AMD. I never would have expected that and illustrates how important memory performance is to the SMP client..

Its not about memory its about your CPUs cache.
Well, some consider the processor's cache structure as part of the memory subsystem. A long, long time ago, relatively speaking, cache used to be installed on the motherboard like main memory.

Intel guy.....thats all! :D
Figured as much, just a little surprised to see that on the DC forum. For the record, my statement was not intended to convey allegiance to a specific manufacturer. I just happen to be running only AMD systems because the Intel systems I currently have are either too old and slow or giving me problems. From all appearances my next system will be Intel, though.

It's funny how things have changed over time if you've been around sufficiently long enough to build a retrospective. At one point, the tables were reversed and those running F@H on Intel system were scoffed at in context to a price/performance perspective.

You are correct, Intel has the upper hand right now. I had always run AMD since the P3, and now i have a q6600.

ICE_9 is a good guy and just making some fun around here is all, I have met him personally. He is just trying to make some entertainment is all.

I know. Everyone around here is cool. :)

Yeah. Sorry if I offended you. :( I definately meant no harm. I just really like Intel for more personal reasons.;) Plus the discounts help with folding too.:D

On that E4400, was that at stock or overclocked? I am looking into getting one of those for a quick budget rig. If you have times I can compare to some of my other boxes I have it would be greatly appreciated.

But..... Just for fun....
