So after building up my new machine I ran 3DMark2005 on it to see how fast its screams..... The only one doing any screaming is me.
I'm getting a 961 in 3DMark2005. I thought that sounded awful low for my hardware (see below).
I swapped back in my Geforce 4600 and promptly found out 3DMark2005 wouldn't run on it. Something about needing pixel shader 2.0. Anyway, I run 3DMark2001 on it and get a respectable 14000.
So I power back down and reinstall my Geforce 6200. Promply run 3DMark2001 and can't believe my eyes... 7500?!?!
My frickin 3 year old 4600 is faster than my brand new 6200?!?! Just to see if it was a benchmark aberation I slapped the 4600 back in a fired up Quake4... Smooth as silk at settings that would make my 6200 choke on itself.

What the F**K is going on? Do I have a bad vid card or do the 6200 just suck that bad?

/me = pissed

Code:
----------------------------
    939Dual-Sata2 bios=1.30
    Athlon 64 3000+ @ 2340MHZ
        Overclock
           HTT = 260MHZ * 9x
           HT = 4x
           RAM = 212MHZ
    1GB Crucial DDR400
    BFG 6200OC AGP @ default clocks

I understand it's far from the best card out there, but that doesn't explain why I'm running half as fast as I should be.

How can I tell?
Not quite sure... but I checked some 6200 benches and they really aren't that much better than what you're getting, although they are higher. My guess is that your card may be 64-bit vs. a 128-bit 6200 in the benches. I checked BFG's site and newegg of the BFG card, and neither state the memory interface. 64-bit memory interface cards will perform 40-50% slower than their 128-bit counterparts.

Also, when swapping cards, did you do new driver installs?

A Ti4600 is still a decent card. Just because 6200 is a bigger number than 4600 doesn't mean that a 6200 is faster. ;)

don't worry i have a 6200 and i only got 1210. i have a athlon 64-3400. I think i will be upgrading my card soon. i know for a fact my card is only 64bit. mine is a leadtek and it even shows on the box the difference between the 128 bit and 64 bit cards. on the box it shows the 128 bit card as having about 25% better performance. my 64 bit card does play all the latest games without much hiccups, but probably the games coming out next year the card will struggle with. So i will probably sell this card and get me a 6800 or something.

you could try modding the 6200 to a 6600 if it is agp, and the same core as the 6200...........do a google search and see for yourself...........
