Slow startup with bootcamp

I recently installed bootcamp on my Mac Pro and it now seems to take much longer to boot up.

After start up a black screen is displayed for about 15 seconds before the Apple startup screen appears and if I hold down the option key it takes well over 30 seconds for the bootcamp menu to appear.

I have set the startup disc within both Vista and OSX but that did not help.

My machine-
2.66Ghz Mac Pro
2GB Ram
External 250GB firewire drive

Any help would be much appreciated

Yeah tried that did not make a difference.

Ran all the cron services and that seems to have fixed it

Still no idea what caused it though
