Slow SCSI performance?

I'm running an AMD X2 3600+ with 2GB of RAM. SCSI controller is an Adaptec 29160N.

Three drives:
100GB SATA 1
2x 72GB SCSI 10,000RPM (SCSI 160)

I was running some Sandra benchmarks today and found that the SATA drive performed slightly better.

The SCSI drive only had a read speed of 57MB/s, whereas the SATA drive was a little over 60. Same for some of the benchmarked drives there for comparison. Granted, random access was much lower, but the transfer speed disappointed me.

Is this a normal speed for SCSI?

How often do you play Sandra?

How does the drive do in real-life benchmarks? Megabytes per second of sequential transfer is very rarely a good metric for drive performance.

seek times are more important if u want responsiveness.

if u want faster overall transfers, u can do Raid 0 on both ur 10k SCSI

What else should I try?

I don't know. What do you use your computer for?

My point is that testing your disks with an application you don't use to get things done with, you don't get anything relevant. If you play games, compare IDE to SCSI in level loading times. If you use Photoshop, compare saving images, starting Photoshop, or swapping.

You wouldn't buy a car you plan to drive to work with based on how it performs in the quarter mile (or at least, I wouldn't). Hard drives are no different.
