I have a server running Debian, with 5 x Seagate 2TB LP in RAID5, and the array benchmarks at a little over 300MB/s via hdparm.
With Ubuntu or XP/Win7 clients I get 15-20MB/s write speed over SMB/CIFS. Using FTP it's pegged at 90MB/s the entire time.
Is there anything I can improve here? I find it odd that if I connect to another share (on the OS drive of the server), this jumps to 45MB/s (or so), so it seems as if the Samba config is not at fault, but WHY would my array see such a drop in CIFS speeds when it's actually capable of far faster over FTP? I've tried a few tweaks such as socket options (TCP_NODELAY etc), and they seem to make no difference at all.
