HA! finally, after almost 3 months, I finally got one of my rigs ( my main rig to boot ) back online and starting to fold, it's not much but when I left just running 2 216's (192) I was pulling 16k (must be the new units lol)!! I hope to get a VM set up soon and max out this rig, and cable should be at the new place soon so there shouldnt be any major down time when I move

So, now that thats done (BIG thanks to K for helping me out, also a fellow Ohioan lol) I can rest easier while I slowly start to rebuild my farm and get back into things here. I'm glad I can actually give something back again!! I know its only a drop in the bucket, but atleast its our bucket and not evga's lol

On a side note, thanks to everyone for the help you will be giving me, I'm sure I'll have alot to ask of yall soon, so why not start with one quick question
-I took a gander at the VM thread and from what I gather running a notfred on 4 cores with one VM is the prefered way of doing things now, vs 2 VM's that was all the rave a few months back. From what I gather, I'd need to buy some sort of program to run this tho, what would that be?

Since when did it change from 2 VMs to just 1 VM?
I know that you can use less memory that way, but I though you still get more PPD using more VMs?

Im still on my sabatical so I dont really know.

Im really jealous and I cant wait till im in my new house and can bring my farm back up.

anyways, I was checking out some stats, see who I should start chasing, HOLY SHIT Doozer, I remember when we were neck and neck, now youve got 2 mil on me lol, I'm gonna need a new rival lol

O well, maybe Santa will be good to me this year and actually let me build a farm lol
 
I don't think there is anything "wrong" with using 2 VMs. 1 VM is easier and would use less memory, but two VMs really saturate the CPU. You do need to buy the VMware workstation software if you just want to use 1 VM and run it on all 4 cores.

I just set up my first VMs a few days ago with the help of some nicely written stickies here at the [H]. I was surprised that the computer was still pretty responsive. I just figured it would have been very slow with all that crunching going on (under a layer of virtualization) but it is still quite usable should you need to dispatch a few zombies in left4dead for example.
 
You can go either 1 or 2 VMs. 2 VMs does a better job of saturating the CPU, but the PpD difference should be negligible. It was for me.

1 VM does use less memory, but requires VMWare Workstation.

Your machine should still be very responsive unless you are running into memory constraints (which is why I went to 1 VM vs 2 VMs) in which case Memory Swapping can bring your machine to a crawl.

 
Ha, been checking my stats all day with no increase, got home (I'm working 2 shifts today to get labor day off) and realized I forgot to change power options, damn thing went to sleep 30 minutes in LOL

I'm gonna have to look into that workstation guy tho, 2 vm's did kinda bog me down LOL

Glad to see that you are back.
You may be able to catch up to me soon because if I don't find a job soon I'm going to have to start selling more of my hardware.
I just had to sell some of my ram this last week. :(

It isn't a cheap solution :(

I am able to purchase through my business and VMWare gave me a 15% discount since I'd tried it out.
