Hi, i recently built a pc, however on windows XP loading screen (the black one with the blue bar going from right to left) takes about 2 minutes for windows to boot, i know this isnt right because ive had a familiar system boot in a matter of seconds, please help me someone. Note: i have not overclocked or tweaked this sytem.

specs

Abit AN7 mobo
barton 2500
2 x 256 twinmos running in dual channel
80gb samsung sata hd
msi dual cdr/dvd
350w psu
windows xp pro
gf4 ti4200

thanks in advance for help

it sounds like you have a bad install, format and reinstall would be your best bet, thats what i had to do, even after i went back to last configuration that worked

google it. Bootvis is a utility that MS put out to optimize booting time.

I'd suggest a reformat. It sounds like a combination of bad driver installations and a fudged OS install.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD BOOTVIS!

I recently ran it, and now I cannot boot into my OS, reparing does not help. Microsoft took it off it's site for a reason.

...or you could just read my tweak guide...there are like what, 2 , maybe 3 boot-time guides?

Do you have a network card installed not currently hooked up to the network. If you do and it is trying to obtain an address through dhcp then it could really slow your boot up time. I've experienced this first hand on several different systems.

nice,

and where may these 'bootguides' be found?

if you were talking (posting) to me, here's your answer, if you weren't, whoops, sorry :p :

Very carefully, ( you might want to write these directions down so you can still see them after following the first step)

1. Press the "General [H]ardware" hyperlink in yellow at the top of your page, located inbetween the House of [H]ardness and Slow Bootup :< hyperlinks (in yellow).

2. Look at the top 3 threads
a) disregard the "Search is Turned Off" thread
b) disregard the "Memory FAQ" thread (although you'll definately want to read it when you get the time)
c) look at the thread entitled "The Unofficial Official Tweak Guide."

3. Click It

4. Scroll down untill you find the links to boot-time guides.

5. Say "Thank-You."
