Make a long story short. I thought something was up when my joint operations, half life mods, tribes vengeance, ut2k4 only got a bump in frames but not SUPER smooth or anything like all the claims. My last card (5900NU) i ran 2xAA and now i'm running 2xAA and 2xAF and its only maybe what 10% faster?! I can still see JO not being as smooth as possible and ut2k4 same thing with alot of players. So i ran 3dmark03 to verify that i was getting what i should and at stock i'm getting 10260 and ultra spec OC i got 11100 or so. So clearly its working fine. But yet doesn't seem to be in games. I have 61.77 drivers, agp @ 8X (its always at this with this card), FW off per what i've seen on here, etc. Tried it in both win2k and xp and today even went so far as to run driver destroyer and what not and still seems to be happening. I'm thinking maybe i should install those newer 4in1s that just came out a few weeks ago versus my old ones from awhiles ago (last ver before the last ones) but i'm not sure what else could be up since 3dmark CLEARLY shows its working right. And as far as vysnc goes i had it off for 3dmark and on for games but i run at 100 hz refresh @ 1024x768 so thats not the prob. Ideas?

im getting the same problem....i think you need to reformat or something. Im coming from an ATI card though. It dips to 25fps in frag ops ( backdoor map ) sometimes :(

I uninstalled the cats and used driver cleaner 3. I get like 12,500 in 3dmark03 though....games just dont run that well..

try turning vsync off, and if its already off try turning it on, some games like it on and some like it off

interesting...im not having the same problem at all...in all of my games(ut2004,halo,doom3,BFvietnam, and mechwarrior mercenaries) ive gained just about double the performance. ut2004 i play 1280x1024 w/ 4xaa/8xaf and never goes lower than 60fps. halo i play at whatever the the profile has it or else it gives me an error when i start the game saying that halo wont play unless the game can adjust the AA settings. i dont remember what i played BFV at cuz i havent played it in a while cuz i dont like the game(waste of a good 40 bucks IMO). and mercs i can play 1280x1024 w/ 8xaa/16xaf and never goes lower than 60fps(not a graphic intenseive game though). and i get a 3dmark2003 score of a lil over 12k and im OC'ed @ 401/1100. could be other factors besides the videocard.

Turn the vsync off at all time.

done :(

I tried playing UT2k4 at 1280x1024 max in game + 4xaa 8xaf and i usually get 80fps, but it dips to like 20's and 30's when there is a lot of action on screen... :(

Vsync off worked fine on my last monitor @ 85 hz but on this one at same res (1024x768) @ 100 hz i get some serious tearing so... no can do.

Do you guys recomend formatting...this is some serious BS. :(

Sure why not. I may do the same myself but on my xp partition! But not today...

Not sure how to do it with nvidia, but you might wanna figure out how to enable triple buffering.

I thought triple buffering is slower because it does the scene 3 times not the usual 2 and takes up more memory on the video ram too?!

EDIT: Nm i was getting it confused with trilinear filtering! =/

I dont have the understanding of Triple Buffering to a science but essentially its 100% useless UNLESS you have vsync enabled. Yes it requires more memory, as much memory as a single frame would take to store, including all the data of AA, res etc, it would be different if there was absolutely no texture compression (i.e ultra high Doom 3 ;P ) but everyone has ATLEAST 64 meg cards (if they play modern games) these days, so its not a big deal. Essentially (i think) it basically allows the card to render an extra frame (if possible) while the monitor is drawing the current frame, thereby eliminating the need for DIRECT syncronization, and increasing performance.

For ATI cards you can enable it in the OpenGL compatability panel, and theres usually options in newer FPS's to enable triple buffering for Direct3D.

Hmm... yeah i found it when i goggled for it. But yeah considering the 6800 gt is a 256 meg card and i'm only running at 1024x768x2xAAx2xAF i should have NO problems using triple buffering. Kicker is its a default in Joint Operations and i think ut2k4 but i turned it off since i got it confused with trilinear filtering rofl. Time to retest those! Thanks.

in the nvidia control panel, under advanced direct3d settings. set prerender ahead to 0

I had a problem like this with my recent upgrade from 9800pro to 6800GT. Everything seemed fine but firing up Doom3 and it was running like a dog.. actually worse than the old card... cleaned out the old drivers, reinstalled windows, no effect. Then i found a setting under Performance & Quality settings called Hardware Acceleration which was set to Multi Device Performance mode..!?! Looking at the help text for this setting i realised that the card was rendering the game twice, once to each monitor..! (Had the 2nd screen switched off at the time.!) Changed the setting to Single Display and it absolutely flew..! I couldn't believe that the card had been rendering twice as much data and was running only a little slower than the 9800Pro..! amazing card...

Anyway, apologies for the minor thread hijack.. normal service resumes... :)

No its at single display mode and always has been! =/ Umm for that advanced d3d i assume u need coolbits installed or?

maybe im not sure. i have coolbits2 installed so possibly....
