OK, heres the thing, my freind has an old gateway pc, with a 550mhz slot proc. i ordered a gigahertz celery for 41 bucks off googlegear, then, not knowing that he needed a slot proc. ive heard something about them, would it be worth it? i dont really want to pay the restocking fee for googlegear then pay more to get a slot proc...

I'm not sure if that slocket adapter will work only because the chip you ordered may be a Tualatin based Celeron. They run at a lower voltage that PPGA/FCPA chips. I would look for a slocket that states it can support Tualatin chips. I know Powerleap makes them.

If it is a regular Celeron, that slocket should work.

Tully Celly are green with a large silver heat sink (looks like a mini-P4 chip).

the old socket procs only went up to 850 right, a 1ghz might be more than the mobo can handle (recozie)

Ok, ive used a bunch of them, and heres what I say.

If possible, get ones with that do VRM. They are a bit more expensive, but will work more likely. If not, it still may work. My Abit BE6-2 took a 1ghz p3 with no problem with a slotkey wihtout vrm. Ive used them on boards with that via apallo 133 (not 133A) chipset where 1 ghz wasn't supported but it worked fine.

Chances are it will be fine.
