I have the 'U' version of this HSF and I love it. The thing is that I am looking ot build another computer and the clip-on version 'A' is 19.99 right now because its on sale at svc. I just want to know if there is a big difference between the bolt-on, and tihs one that mounts with clips. I love the bolt-on one, but is this one just as good?

Its the same thing, just with clips. Its not as stable though, so make sure you don't move your PC around much with the clip-on.

It's so stable, if you move it around alot you risk having the socket getting torn off. I wish I could find the U version.

i have a slk-800 without the pad things keeping the sink from moving... not a bit worried about damage and i take it here there and everywhere in my car.... i do lay my pc with window facing up tho..

dont wana see what will happen if i drop it from 5 feet tho... :cringe: my whole case is 50+ lbs... there would be a busted geforce and a mobo with a missing socket and 2 broken hdds

I recently moved into a new apartment and I had no problem with the clip version. I had my big ass tower in my truck bouncing around with no problems. On top of that, a part of the motherboard clip is chipped off from installing so many heatsinks and it still stayed on with no problems.

i had a 900a on my abit an7.....i dropped my comp.....lol down some stairs and the hs clip didnt snap the proc....i was lucky

I think I'll pick up the "A" version and use it in my HTPC but my gaming rig is in a suit case so I'll go something else instead.

ok guys you convinced me, Ive just purchased it! By the way. I am going to be using this on a HTPC, so it should be ok right? Im thinking of putting it on with an enermax adjustable fan so it doesnt make too much noise. (the 92mm one). What do you think?

make sure theres nice air flow slk+no air flow= but as long as you dont overclock n stuff and theres a little air flow it should run perfectly.. overclock til it hits the 113 F(45 C) mark if not less.. then thats all you can do

If the board is going to laying flat then yes I'm sure that it won't have too many jolts and such (thats what I'll be using mine with too).

come on.... i have a chieftec dragon i have driven my car around and banged my case around no missing socket.. my GRAPHICS CARD is in more danger then my cpu.
my case has 50 lbs of inertia...i have dropped it fairly hard from a foot in the air still in tact i got a feeling i gotta bang it hard enough to kill hdds to kill cpu and graphics card graphics card is first to go tho

yeah no doubt yer socket is fine, iv enever had any issues with mine either, althou I have never dropped my pc, it does go to quite a few lan parties.
