I have an slk 800 and barton 2500 runnin at 200 by 10 on a abit nf7-s board, my temps i think are horrible, idle its at 36-38 degrees, load its at 40-43 degrees, what is up wit these temps, i thought the slk 800 was good, also im using the thermal compound that came wit the mobo
 
You're using thermal grease that came with your Mobo? your mobo came with thermal grease? Wow. Get some good thermal grease then (arctic silver 5 for example).

Even still, your temperatures are not terrible, your load isn't much higher than your idle. One way to bring temps down in addition to using something like Arctic Silver 5, is to ensure your case temps are kept low and that you have good airflow over your HSF. If the fan blowing on your SLK800 is just recirculating some hot air, its not going to cool as well.
 
Dude your temps are fine. In a idle case of 35C i get idle CPU of 47C and load of 53C

Those numbers you quoted indicate your heatsink is doing it's job, and doing it fairly well.

You start to question a heatsinks ability when there is a large delta between idle and load temps. Your 4-5C delta says the heatsink/fan is doing great. Your problem, if you perceive one, is likely bad case ventilation/improper airflow.
 
CPU temps largely depend on what components and how many components you have.

Example:
My 2500+ @ 2.2 runs at 98F idle with a thermaltake smart fan II on my SLK900A, ti4600, 1 hard drive, 1 optical drive.

My brother's 2500+ @ 2.2 ran at 125F idle with a thermaltake smart fan II on my SLK900A, 9800 pro, 2 hard drives, 2 optical drives.

The big difference here is his video card. Radeons run hot especially the 9500, 9700, 9800 series cards.

whats ur ambient and case temps?
