Slim external ODD vs slim internal ODD

Hi, I'm needing the expertise of the forum to make the best purchase for my build.

My current project is a small form factor wooden case that will need a slim, slot loading ODD for all of the hardware to fit properly.

I've heard several problems concerning durability, noise level, and burner reliability with the slim internal ODDs; in addition, I'd need a microSATA power adapter. Do the externals have the same problems? I assume the burn rates would be slower due to the USB interface with the external, but if it were quieter/more reliable I wouldn't mind.

Which do you suggest? Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Well if it's external does it still need to be slim? You could always get a USB 3.0 one if you have the support for it. That or eSATA?

Although it would be an external drive, I'd still need it to be slim as it would go on the inside of the case for convenience purposes.

either way you go it's going to be noisy, the trays are flimsy and ALL are stuck at 8X DVD and 24x CD. Speed through USB won't be an issue because of the lower write speeds. hope this helps!
