Slim Build, rather tricky

I'm aiming to build a build in the next few months but there are a couple of problems. Since the case isn't too large (300x300x70mm) I can't go with every configuration.

One of the problems is the motherboard, which has to within 300x200mm in size. I'm planning to put a Core i5 in it but there are currently no 1156 supporting motherboard that come in this size. So ..

(1) Is it possible to get a Shuttle Form Factor Motherboard without actuallying buying ... a shuttle?

(2) Are there perhaps motherboards coming out in the next few months that will fit my description? I'm not in a hurry anyway. 2010 Q1 is fine.

Another problem is the PSU. Since I plan on putting in a full-size GPU (HD5850/70) not only the space that is available is a problem but also the amps and power since it has to power a Core i5 (65w 2010 Q1) and a HD5850 (potentially HD5870). (3) Anything in mind?

I was thinking of removing the PSU case to make it fit but I'm not sure if that's safe (touching undischarged capacitators comes to mind) but it would probaly fix a thing or two.

Thanks in advance.

Thread already started, some questions already amswered:

Yes, and he was referred here.

Anyway, good luck getting an i5/5850 setup with psu inside a 300x300x70mm case. There isn't really anything current that I know of that can do this- at the very minimum you'll need a pci-e riser card and total disregard for noise.

If you linked us to the case specs, it would be easier for us to tell you exactly what you're missing/need to find.

to make a case that slim and use a psu(w micor atx mobo) you need the psu to be be on top of the the last two pci slots and just use the the gpu for the first two pci slots.
so it will be micro atx mobo but only has 2 usable pci slot.

I'm working inside-out to avoid size problems. Let's say I'll be 10mm short on 1 side, do I throw the idea out of the window when everything else is perfect? Of course not, so that's why I simply work with a certain space as my goal, it may vary but should be close. Searching a case in which it'll fit is going to be piece of cake compared to actually getting the configuration to fit in such a small space.

I was thinking of that too but one of the problems is that mATX dimensions are 240x240. And the HD5850 is 110x240. So that would place the PSU right above/near the CPU, which will be getting a GPU cooler. So I'm not sure it that would be smart, from a thermal point of view. If it would put it next to the motherboard it would add another 120-140mm to the 240mm putting it at 360-80mm. Bit too much.

If only I could get my hands on a Shuttle motherboard. The're 180mm width so putting a PSU/GPU next to it is absolutely no problem.

This is probably your best bet for a matx/sfx psu that can power a Core i5 cpu and a HD5850/5870:

Unfortunately there aren't any reviews that I can find. Been thinking about picking one up myself for a gpu upgrade.

I'm trying to find reviews aswell, no success yet. Dimensions look pretty good, especially the height. Hmm, defeniantly a good one if I'm going with a mATX/SFX PSU since I'm also checking out some server PSUs. The problem is that they tend to be very noisy. :/
