SLi worth it in SFF?

Im building a new SFF as I see these AMD prices drop so quickly, lol. I wanted to know if it was worth it to buy that Evga SLi mobo and run SLI or buy another board and just run that new GX2 card? I need a mobo with good overclock options as well. Last question, would quad SLi run in the EVGA SLi Board with the right drivers?
 
The only nvidia combo that will currently beat out a gx2 is a 7900gtx sli setup. So unless you want to go with that then a gx2 is probably the best bet. I havent heard any reports of what matx boards are compatible with the gx2 but I think the evga board has an nf4 chipset. I dont remember off the top of my head so I could be wrong, but if it is then chances are it is compatible. Also, assuming one gx2 is compatible then yes you would be able to run quad sli on it also. The only down side to the evga is its oc ability can be limiting depending on the multiplier your cpu is locked at. I personally chose the dfi infinity matx board from my opteron 165, and now I'm running at a clean 2.9ghz. With the evga chances are you couldnt take the htt link high enough to pull that off.

Hope that answers most of your questions. You might be able to seach the internet for a more definative yes or no on the evga's gx2 compatibility.

to all of it. You are flurting with heat issues with SLi and not many cases can handle it. Perhaps a modded Lian Li or standard Qmicra would be able to cool it
 
Im using the v300b and I am currently modding a watercooling system into it right now. gpus will not be watercooled, especially since I dont see a waterblock for the GX2's yet(thats not 8mm tubing). The cards will have one of the 120mm fans on the 2x120 rad blowing across them. I will also be using the silverstone crossflow fan to pull the air out the back of the case. I will probably end up going Tforce with just a single GX2, but i was just trying to see if duals would perform enough better on the matx board to go that direction.
 
I am running an SLI matx system and aside from the annoying 2T evga issue I am happy.
Very stable its not as cool running as my main rig but it doesn't suffer from any thermal issues.

I just ordered the eVGA mATX SLI board, I figure it can't hurt :D

I mainly bought it not for the SLI ( :eek: ), but to get rid of my firewire card, sound card, and get more SATA plugs and gigabit LAN for my college. But the option of the future SLI upgrade sure is sexy.

I would say SLI would not be worth it on any build unless you plan to use SLI as an upgrade path as I am. Go with the 7950GX2 if you want SLI performance and don't plan on upgrading soon (or plan on maybe going quad-SLI :D ). In my case, I don't often have the money or am not willing to spend it on components. Therefore, I buy stuff as cheap as possible and upgrade when I can. I have spent around $800 on my current build, including the new mobo...
 
I've done sli in every sff case I've had and thats 3, from the shuttle sn26p, then sg01 and now qmicra. and I would say that heat is def. NOT an issue, at least not for me. just remember that 7800gtx 256 runs hotter than 7900gt. once you go sli, you can't go back. if you do decide to go quad sli on the evga matx mobo, you have to make sure you psu can handle it, but if you do, you will have no slots for anything else because it will be covered by the dual slot cards. personally, I wouldnt go quad sli in a matx chassis just because I like at least one pci slot free for a dedicated sound card. the evga matx is an nforce 4 board btw.
 
I can confirm that the GX2 works on the biostar 6100 board. New rig specs in sig.

whether or not its worth it is subjective and up to the individual. some sees a 30" as a must have, others don't see it being worth it.
