how do i SLI do i need a special motherboard to do that or i can just do it with a regular agp mother board would like to know since i already have a 6800 U OC water cooled and im thinking of doing Sli

you need a Nforce4SLI Mother Boards (ASUS and Gigabyte make greats ones from what I have heard) and two identicle 6800 SLI capable GPUS.
Even still the price does not justify the performance.

Yes, youd need an SLI Mobo, I suggest one of these 2:

http://tw.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-K8NXP-SLI.htm

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum/SLI&class=mb

The MSI one is slightly more expensive, but more stable.

You'll also need 2 PCI-E 6 series cards (6600GT, 6800NU, 6800GT, 6800Ultra)

Although, IMO the performance doesnt make up for the price, if you still want to do it I would suggest 2 6800NUs, unlock them to GTs, and boom, 2 6800GTs, for only a bit more then 2 6600GTs

PCIE 6800NU are not unlockable, they are 12 pipe nV41 GPUs? You're thinking of the AGP ones.

Also, 6800NUs are over $100 more each than 6600GTs.

h, I didnt know about the un-unlockabilty.

Oh, and here there only about $60-$70 more.

The two 6600gt's I'm running out perform the x800 I had before, and cost $400 rather than $600

The x800pro maybe. The XL no(even in Doom3, 2 6600GTs beat the XL only by around 5 FPS), The X800XT not even, And the XT-PE not in your dreams

Errr, why would anyone compare a 6600GT SLI rig to a X800XT or XT PE?

Let's see: $380 vs how much?

I dunno which goddamn X800 he has, so I just said all of them

Maybe he SOLD his XT and got the 6600GTs, did you ever think of that?

I dunno, everyone on these forums is a prick.

Nope, just me. But the only reason I am is because is people keep posting all sorts of misinformation, which saddens me.

I think people come to these boards to learn about hardware, and then develop misconceptions based on info posted by people they think must be knowledgeable due to their post count.

If he had a X800Pro, it's very possible his 6600GT SLI provides a better gaming experience on many newer games. To say "No way if it was a X800XT or a X800XT PE!" is sort of misleading.
A. Obviously
B. Did he SAY he had those higher end cards? No.

If you compare those cards to a more appropriate card, say 6800GT SLI, the whole sli picture changes a bit doesn't it?

Even though thats true I still can't really change my opinion on SLI. since 2 6600GTs can be beaten by similarily priced single 6800GT, that doesnt seem very worth it. And since with 2 6800GTs you only get a 10-15 fps boost in most games, compared to say an XT or 6800GT (which costs like $400-$600 less) it doesnt seem really worth it. Maybe if the "Double the performance" aspect of SLI was true (I.E. getting 160 fps with 2 6600GTs) then i would seem very worth it. Since you only get a 10-15% boost, the extra vast amounts of cash isnt worth it IMO

See? There's the misinformation again!

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041123/sli-performance-16.html

Doom3 6800GT SLI =67s X800XT PE =37s 30/37=81% better, and an Ultra SLI rig is even higher?

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041123/sli-performance-18.html
Far Cry 6800GT SLI=53 fps X800XT PE = 36 fps 17/36 = 47% better? Again, Ultra SLI higher yet?

These are two of the biggest engines games in the next few years will be based on Hate_Bot- running 47% and 81% slower on your XT PE. That is not "10-15%".

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041123/sli-performance-23.html
Battlefield VietNam is more of the same?
6800GT SLI=83fps X800XT PE=61 22/61= 36% better.

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041123/sli-performance-25.html
The HL2 engine is the other big FPS engine these days, and you are right here- the 6800U is only 10% faster on it.

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041123/sli-performance-12.html
UT2004 Uh oh.
6800GT SLI= 151fps X800XT PE=113 fps 38/113=33% faster for 6800GT SLI

So even using the SECOND fastest sli rig I posted benches to four popular shooter games where the advantage was 33-81% for SLI.

There is no "10-15%", SLI owns anything ATI does at MANY games.

It's stuff like this that makes me peevish Hate_Bot. People might assume you know what you're talking about because you're "Gawd", but if they took your post here seriously, they'd be as wrong as you?
