I'm torn on how to build my new setup. I have three options I'm considering, this will be my primary computer and it will be used for gaming. It will be pushing a 30" Dell monitor. Here's the choices:

A. 1. QX6700 $985
2. BFG 8800GTX water cooled edition $799
Total: $1784

B. 1. E6600 $316
2. EVGA 8800GTX $579
3. EVGA 8800GTX $579
4. Danger Den waterblocks for 2 8800GTX $270
Total: $1744

C. 1. QX6700 $985
2. EVGA 8800GTX $579
3. Danger Den waterblock for 8800GTX $135
Total: $1699

If I get the BFG 8800 I get a watercooled card with a lifetime warranty ready to install, but the block isn't difficult to install and I know it would take me maybe 10 minutes to do myself. I understand that EVGA keeps the warranty even if you install an aftermarket cooler as long as the warranty request isn't for damage done to the card by said cooler. I have an SLI rig now, and besides big 3dmark scores I guess the 8800GTX is powerful enough to drive the Dell 30" panel with all settings on max, so I may see no benefit to an SLI setup.

However I may never use all 4 cores of a quad processor, I will use this comp for Photoshop, so that may benefit.

So which setup would you buy and why?

D? option B but with the 6600 replaced by a 6300 for a month and then replace it with a quad....

Do You really need 2 8800GTX in SLI? Sounds like over kill... I may be wrong though

Don't be silly, the OP is running a Dell 24" monitor, a prime candidate for SLI. To run new games at the native resolution of 1920x1200 pixels you almost certainly need SLI.

B all the way. The SLi setup on those is great and i'd wait for the quad's till the prices dip down.

Thanks for the replies folks. I decided to go with the following and ordered it today:

EVGA 680i mobo
Intel X6800 Core 2 Duo
2gigs Corsair Dominator DDR2-1250 PC2 10,000

I will be picking up dual 8800GTX's, but I went over budget on the cpu & memory, so I'll have to wait a month or 2.

I do have the 24" now, but this new system will eventually be pushing a 30" Dell at 2560x1600, so I agree, SLI is a good choice.

I vote option B because right now there is really no reason for a quad core so just get a core 2 and 2 8800 in SLI and you rig will bw a BEAST!!!:)
