I have a 7800gt and I'm debating whether to sell it off or go SLi with it. I know someone I could sell to for $240 which seems to be about the price 7900gt's are going for or I could just buy another used 7800gt for around $200 and go SLi. Suggestions?

i say get a 7900gt but then on the other hand idk man i see what u mean though pick lol. :p

LOL... You want to sell your card @ $240 but you want to buy the same card for $200... :D

A 7900gt is a fair step up from a 7800gt, and if you sell your current card, it'd only cost you $50 or less. I say sell the 7800 and pick up a 7900. It's the classic hardware swap. Sell the old for almost full value, buy the new and pay a few bucks to step up.

Hey I know someone who'll pay $240 but also know where I can buy one for $200. Nothing wrong with entrepreneurial spirit ;)

I sold my 7800GTX for $265 and got a 7900GT KO for $240.

Sometimes you can get lucky like that.

I'm thinking 7800GTX is faster than 7900GT.... Doesn't GTX have 512meg ?

Only the expensive two slot cooler models had 512mb. The 7900GT has more OC headroom and its standard performance was about on par with the 7800gtx.

Not to mention high defective rates from what I'm hearing from people

Mine was an eVGA 256MB 7800GTX 450/1200.

I would score about 5000 at max overclock with the 7800GTX. My 7900GT hits around 5300.

Once my wife gets back from Radio Shack I'm going to volt mod the card to 1.4V and see what it'll do. Hoping for 7900GTX speeds.

sell your 7800gt and get x1900xt. :D Just to be different.

HA! Way to throw that in there troi! You beat me to the punch. Can't wait for the flames.........But seriously, X1900XT would be a step up from a 7800, they are still a little pricey though.

yeah $370 for an OEM sapphire, that is $100 out of your pocket. but would be a real big jump.

i say screw the SLI, no point when you can buy a single card that would be faster then your 2 7800Gt's sli'd.

I have seen 7800gt cards sucessfully bid for under $200 on Ebay.

2 7800gt ~= 1 7900gtx

Benchmarks show that the 7900GT is slightly faster than the 7800GTX.

In my budget-restrained eyes, I don't feel like the SLI or Crossfire plan is the best idea from an economic standpoint. Let's say a year ago you get two 6800GT's to run in SLI for it's retail price. A year later a single card can outperform it. If you want top-of-the-line performance and money isn't an issue I say go for SLI, but in a year you'll want to upgrade to better things because your old SLI rig isn't up to your standards anymore. It's still very early in the GPU bridging game so maybe things will be different. As for now, I say go for the single card.

Welp I made my decision, selling the 7800gt and buying a 7900gt. I think if I work it right I might be able to zero out the purchases too looking at current prices. :D

Here's my suggestion:
Since you were considering spending $200 on another 7800 GT to go sli, rather than sell the 7800 GT and use the funds to buy a 7900 GT, why not sell the 7800 GT for $240 and then put the extra $200 to it you were going to spend... and then ... For just $30 more, buy the 7900 GTX ?
