SLI n multi-monitor question

Been out of the loop for a while, can SLI when active support multiple monitors now? Is it limited to just when game is in use or can you game on one monitor and use the other for anything else? From what I remember when SLI first came out, you could only use one monitor when active, just not sure if that's the case anymore. Thanks

Both monitors work just fine now, though sometimes the type of connector your using can have an impact. I've got one display up with DP, and another with HDMI, and that works fine, but a friend of mine has DVI and HDMI hooked up, and he's told me that sometimes the second screen shuts off.

On the desktop you can use any number and connection for monitors. When in game SLI kicks in and uses only the primary display.

It usually will work unless you are doing something like the Dell UP2715K where you don't have enough bandwidth for the monitor in the connection.
