So I added two Galaxy 560 2gb to my system. I have a corsair gs800 psu. Sli enabled. Load a game and it tries to start, hits the load screen, then artifacts and freezes.

Try to uninstall the drivers and the whole system freezes and the screen is just black. Have to do a hard reset to get it to reboot.

This is from a fresh reformat. Not sure if the psu is not up to par or if it is software.
 
System spec's, driver installed, OS.. all that would really help us in helping you. The 800GS should be be enough to power your cards, but without knowing what else you have really hampers us.

General advise, do a clean install of drivers, try the last 285 WHQL (295's seem to have issues with SLI) and let us know.
 
Using the latest and 64 bit vista. 2500k and 8 gb sys mem with one hd and 1 dvd. Not a strain.

I did a clean install but the drivers are the latest 295.73.

I can't uninstall the drivers though. Kind of an issue. I will reformat again and use the 285. Thanks

Is your system overclocked?

This sounds like a system failure not a video driver failure.

If it was just drivers, you would regain control once out of the game program.
 
Only the cpu is oced at 4.2.

Gpu clocks are stock.

MSI P67A GD65 is mobo

Worked fine with a single 560. Might have issues that I do not care to deal with.
 
What game are you playing?

I had to disable SLI on Civ IV, because my bottom screen wouldn't stop shaking. You can disable it from the nVidia Control Panel, select the game profile and disable SLI.
 
no game loaded. I tried bf3, batman, alice and the sol demo. All had the exact same issue at load screen.
 
Have you tried the new card by itself? Sounds like you may have a dud.

Both cards work individually I think. Need to test the second now that I think about it. Both work fine together in windows and only give me crap when I load a game or try to adjust or uninstall the drivers.

Going to check the advanced power settings for pci-e too.

Same psu ran a oced 480 gtx which pulled similar power I think.

I had an issue with two GTX570 HD's in SLI. Black screen while gaming. Narrowed it down to the second video card. Definitely try them individually, that's the way i found out what the issue was.
 
You might also try swapping out the SLI bridge if you have an extra, or even try flipping it upside down. Please let me know once you've had a chance to test card #2 on its own, and in the meantime I'll go see if our engineers have some other suggestions.
 
Both cards work fine. I am pretty certain it is either a software or power issue. In the process of reformatting again to resolve the software issues. Or rather to make certain it isn't that.

The psu did a strange thing a few times prior to installing these cards though. When I was running a single 480 gtx, it just shut down mid game 2 or 3 times and once not in game just idle in windows. Which makes me suspect the psu even though it is a month or so old.

I had a similar issue on my system when i went SLI, overclocked i7 930. Found out it was the ICH voltage which supplies the southbridge pci lanes. I had it locked at stock value, but it apparently needed an extra 0.05v because of the extra populated slots. Was at 1.2 before, now its at 1.25 and works like a charm.

not sure if sandy has a similar thing.
 
Won't work still. Everything but games works fine. Try to play a game and it goes into load screen then crashes and I get the good ole nvddmgkmnw display driver stopped working error.

Video works fine. Windows fine. Games = nope.

Disable sli, leave both cards in with 2nd 560 running physx and games work fine.

Something is wrong in software or my particular combo of parts and drivers is not kosher.

So back to a single card setup for me.

Those cards draw just over 500w on my system in sli. I can get a single GTX480 to draw more with a mild overclock. So I'm pretty sure that its not the psu. Maybe try using the pci power cables that you had on the second card on the first when you are using it by itself which would sort of rule out the psu.

A different sli bridge might be a good suggestion. Where did you get the sli bridge? I may have a spare MSI sli bridge that I can send to you if you want.
 
I have tried switching the cables, card positions, flipping the bridge and it has gotten better. Still won't load but at least now it tries and then just CTD instead of total lock up. Still, too much hassle. I turn sli off and everything works great. So yeah, there's your sign!

I will continue to poke around it until these cards sell. Not much hope in it ever working though. I just have one of those systems that is a sli blocker. No big deal. This shit happens.
 
Seems like the only thing you haven't tried is a new SLI bridge, can you get a new one or borrow from someone?

Going to try that. Still have the cards fs/ft but in the meantime I will keep tinkering. Pretty sure I want a single card setup again though. I can't fit a sound card or anything really with sli. Takes up too much space.
 
Oh and I flipped the sli bridge, tried to load a game, no dice. Tried to turn off sli, the pc shut down. Shut down by powering off completely like I flipped the power switch. turn the pc back on and lol. Sli has been disabled. Might be that bridge. Everything else seems to works tits.
 
Is your mainboard BIOS updated to the latest revision? What about the chipset drivers?

All updated. I am confident it is the bridge. Getting one mailed to me. I think the one I have must be for ati cards b/c it is msi and the same stock # part as what I have for my mobo but it says crossfire and not sli anywhere on the bridge.
 
Have you tried running SKI with out the bridge? I heard you can do that but with at the cost of the a performance hit. And yea if that's a crossfire bridge that would explain the volatile crashes when you would try to run a game and SKI would kick in.
 
It was the bridge. Make sure it says sli not crossfire. They look almost exactly the same but yeah. lol

Both cards working fine now.
 
Now that you've resolved your issue, you still going to get rid of it for a single card solution?

Not until there is something faster for the $$. I paid $300 for these and they are doing fine for that. I plan on changing when nvidia and amd get all of their new cards released and the kinks are worked out.

I haven't played much of it but bf3 seems to run a little microstuttery. Batman runs butter at 1920x1440 as does Metro 2033 at 1600x1200. Both at max settings. DX9 for batman and dx10 for metro.
