SLI...dual monitors?

well, when maxPC was playing around with SLI (6800 ultras i believe) they got four monitors to work. obviously for games that's still useless but I don't see why Dual monitors wouldn't work.

sure...if you turn off SLI you can run multiple monitors...as soon as you turn on SLI all your secondary monitors will go blank.

Given that enabling/disabling SLI requires a reboot...having to reboot before playing a game and then rebooting after your done playing a game IS NOT the solution.
 
how exactly does it work? Will I have 2 different desktops are just one BIG desktops? Same for gaming on one but surfing on the other. How does that work? How I get the mouse ovet the other screen? Since my video card has dual dvi could I hook one dvi to my monitor and the other to a KVM?

I could use 2 monitors on my old 9800 pro, why the hell wouldn't you be able to do it with SLI?

ok I just wish you could run a game with a dual monitor setup. Imagine runnning dual monitors with a game like LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth.

I think you are confused about SLI. SLI = 2 video cards with a total of 4 DVI, VGA or a combination of both. If you have an SLI setup and disable the SLI feature, you can have 4 monitors hooked up. If you want only 2 monitors hooked up, an SLI setup is not needed. All you need is 1 videocard with dual heads.

You can choose to extend your desktop, have a bunch of different ones or span (the dual monitors will act as one). The choice is yours.

You can game with both monitors enabled, but you would have to span it, which looks retarded because of the gap between each monitor. You can have the game in one monitor and surf the net on the other, but you can only do one at a time. So it basically defeats the purpose, you would have to alt-tab out to do one or the other.

I have four monitors laying around and for once I started using my system for some stuff besides games, so I hooked up a second monitor and the system wouldn't even detect it at all until I disabled SLi. If I disable SLi I can use all four DVI ports.

I am running the 71.89 drivers.
