SLI Benchmarks

Hello all:

I have recently put together my SLI computer and have run a few HL2 benchmarks, trying to gauge performance compared to what I have seen on the net. So I was wondering if others with SLI rigs could post some of their HL2 scores with the settings they used and the config they have.

On a side note, I was also wondering if others experienced any slowdown at certain points in the game that seem rather odd. For instance, toward the beginning of the game when you are unsuccessfuly transported outside of Kliners lab, when I look at the large power plant like structure in the back there is some very noticeable slowdown. Yet in similar graphically intensive situations it is smooth as silk. Are there simply random areas that were not optimized as well or what?

Thanks.

run 3dmark05 and 3dmark03 as well as aquamark3 if u want to compare scores w/ people.

i disagree

run games if you want to compare gaming performance with others

i have experienced the odd slowdowns as well on an SLI system in HL2, strange

what driver were you using?

I am using the ones nVidia has on their site, 66.93. Are there others that support SLI?

67.03 does

so does 71.24, but 71.24 makes the water green in HL2, so i wouldn't use them for HL2

yes, run games...because there will be no guarentee that you are running the same quality settings at all while benchmarking, thereby reinforcing the integrity of the benchmark and your ability to compare your results with others' whom do not even post game benchmarks.

BLA BLA BLA

Seriously, run a synthetic benchmark because you can directly compare FPS with hundreds of other systems to get a general idea of how well you system is performing.

Well this was the idea, get people to post the exact settings that they were using such as reflect world/all, ansio level, antialias level, etc., etc. There are only a set amount of setting one can use and as such I would like to get a comparison of what people like to run this game at and what kind of performance they are getting at those particular settings. I'm not trying to compare anything as far as getting better framerates than someone else, just trying to find out if my fps are somewhat in the ballpark of where they should be.

And as far as the 67.03 goes, I'm not sure if I want to try them if they are not yet nVidia certified.

Half Life 2 doesn't get much benefit from SLI as it is CPU limited in most cases.

In some scenarios you can get up to a 30% boost from SLI when there is a really GPU intensive scene, but that is rare.

Doom3 and FarCry get much bigger boosts from SLI as they require more graphic horsepower.

actually, just DOOM 3

SFR doesn't seem to want to work to well in the outdoor environments of FarCry

but it works well indoors

did you buy your video card to run synthetic benchmarks or to play games?

So does anyone have any benchmarks they have run on HL2. I ran a few timedemos from Anandtech such as their city 17 one and got around 63 fps w/all graphics option turned up to their max and 4xAA 8xAnsio at 1600x1200. Does that sound about right for the following:

FX-55
A8N-SLI
2xBFG 6800GTs
4x512 Corsair 3200XL
2xWD 74GB Raptors in RAID0
400GB Seagate
Audigy 4 Pro
etc. etc.

Everything is at stock speeds. And the whole reason I was wondering is in their review of SLI the HL2 benchmarks seem slower on my machine even though I have an FX and they used a 4000+. However, I don't know what graphics settings they used besides 1600x1200 and 4xAA and 8xAnsio.

You'd be surprised how much I've benchmarked at some points. Honestly, I benchmark because I enjoy tweaking my system (like all of us.) Computers are one example of a ready-made environment in which a person can experiment (i.e. OC) and get immediately accurate measurements and results. So I bought a NV5, flashed bios to 1.4V, OC RAM, OC Core, benchmark. Heck, besides playing games and using the internet, benchmarking is the third most common thing I use my system for. I use synthetic benchmarks because they give consistent results which I can compare to both my own system and others' systems.
