I just got a couple of BFG 6600GT's to run in SLI. I decided to go this path because 6800's for PCI-Express aren't yet available in Australia (at least where i live), and i sorta like the idea of two video cards and two GPU's. Now i read in almost all reviews that the outputs on the second card were disabled in SLI mode; but what i didn't read is that so is the second output on the primary card. Allowing you only to run one monitor. As i bought these cards with the intention of running my 2 samsung 172x displays i was extremly disapointed that this fact was not more clearly stated by nvidia. And i specifically purchased these cards (with dual DVI) for $100AUD more than a basic 6600GT with the intention of running them both in digital while running SLI. Now i'm one unhappy chappy because i have no idea what to do with either my second video card or my second display! and one 6600GT obviously wouldn't be my choice of weapon in a $2000AUD computer..

Does anyone know why the 2 GPU's in SLI can't control 2 RAMDAC's? Will they support this latter when official drivers come out instead of the beta forceware drivers? Is there anything anyone knows on this topic? Or has nvidia generally forgot to mention it. (I admit that is mentioned on the SLI website, just not clearly and in small grey type:

"Joined by the NVIDIA SLI connector, the two graphics cards power one monitor, delivering earth-shattering....."

Though it doesn't say that your second monitor is also disabled in windows as well..
hmmm... i just felt like a rant after spending all of that money...

Given the way nVidia has chosen to implement SLI (game-specific driver profiles, many older/less popular games not supported), and the fact that even several of the popular supported games (*cough*FARCRY*cough*) see little or no performance improvement, going SLI at all seems to me kinda silly ATM. Honestly, I'd recommend you return the 6600's, and get a 6800 GT or Ultra. Better overall performance, no wonky SLI-support issues, and crisp, clean dual-display in 2d. Cost should be about the same, IIRC, though you might have to eat the shipping.
