I took a look around and I see several people in the forums with 1200w PSUs serving TRI-480s. Since my understanding is that a 480 uses ~315W, 1200w-315w means I should be ok with a 1000w PSU. I also noticed the HF Fermi PSU guide lists PSUs in the 1000w-1200w range for the dual 480 setup.
That said, my PSU isn't new, I've owned it since October 2009 and it powered a 295GTX FTW and a i7-920 until I upgraded about a month ago.
I'm looking to play FFXIV (to be released in September) and I want a really excellent gaming experience. I'm currently running 2x 22" monitors (only using one for gaming), but I want to move to a bigger primary display-- I'm currently thinking about this 27" Samsung, but am open to suggestions. It isn't clear to me if another 480 would be necessary to run the game in the most demanding situations, or if my single 480 would do the trick. Game stutter drives me nuts, so I'm inclined to go with another card to be safe.
If I do decided to add another 480 to my setup, how likely is it that I will have a problem with my current PSU?
