Hi, I want to know how much is the PSU requierement to SLI two 460GTX. I already got an Antec 650w but just got 2 pcie cables. Another question but not for the PSU. A SLI 460GTX worth it if I already got one or I'm better to go with one single card. Thanks

I had 2 460's for about a year on a corsair 650W supply and never had any problems. I didn't have anything else out of the ordinary (i5 2500 at stock voltage), so you should be fine. Just use adaptors for the pcie power cables.

That said I'm much happier running a single 660ti now. It ranges from about the same performance to a pretty significant improvement based on how well SLI scales and how much VRAM is a factor (IGB for each of the 460s, 2GB for the 660).

If you already have both 460s just try it out and see how much of a difference it makes. It's easy to disable one from the control panel and test with a single card.

I'm running 2 OC'ed GTX 460's, an OC'ed i7 2600k, and 4 hard drives flawlessly on a 650watt Rosewilll PSU.

A single 7950 or something would give you some improvement over sli GTX 460's. It wouldn't be huge, and for me, it wasn't worth $300. I say if you already have the sli setup, keep it until the next generation of cards comes out.

So you say I'm be "ok" with my Antec Earth 650w with 2 pci e adaptor? I'm planning to OC my 2500k at 4.5 ghz. I dont got the other 460gtx but I can easy get here for 100 shipped, cheapest than 660ti or 7850/7950. I already tryed to put a pci express adaptor on my 460GTX but the connecter isnt fit. The adaptor fit on my 9800GTX but not on 460GTX

You'll need about 500W for both video cards. Your looking at the performance around that of a GTX 570 or GTX 660. Not sure of the efficiency of your power supply, you'll be close.

If you think you'll need a new power supply I wouldn't bother. Just sell the 460 and use the would-be power supply money to find a used 570 or a new 660 on sale. Otherwise a second 460 for sli would be a minimal hassle and great bang for the buck.

Prior to my current cards and few other tri-sli setups I had a dual GTX465 setup which later was a tri sli 465 setup. The 465 is a tad bit faster then the 460's using a bit more power, it ran perfectly fine on my Antec Neo HE550 for a small time being, but this psu is also a good one too. So this should give you a rough idea.

As with going with the upgrade of a single more power card, I'd personally recommend it as some games might not be optimized for SLi as a single one power card so you don't get any low fps or stuttering performance or massive dips.

I found that weird too. The square square round doesnt fit on the 460 but fit on the 9800GTX. I read a lot about and my power supply will handle 2 460GTX easly but I'll need two molex > pci e. I'll take one of my power supplie and one molex on each of the 460. I think this will be a good idea. This is the best bang for the buck, the other 460gtx will cost me less than 100 shipped.

Good :)
Like I said I already try a molex to pcie and it dont fit on my 460GTX but fit on my 9800GTX. Theres two model of 6pin? Already happened to somebody?

No, it PCI-E power connectors are standardized, and has been since the 8800GTX I believe. Either something was wrong with your adapter and 9800GTX, or something's wrong with your GTX 460.

Your Earthwatts 650 has 540 watts available on the 12v rail. GTX 460 power consumption is about 150 watts each. Your 2500k will probably draw 120 watts at most when overclocked. Everything else is about 50-100 watts. You're fine with your current PSU.

Oh my girlfriend has the hawk 460. It doesn't seem to be using the reference design but I could be wrong. However the molex adapter should fit either way.

The connectors are standardized, no one uses anything different. There must be a defect somewhere.

Check to see if the shapes are correct on your card and connector.

Oh right, some generic cheap Molex to PCIe adapters have one defect with them, I've experienced a batch of 50 at my last work place.

By reference to the above picture of Tsumi, the problem was that the 6 pin connector on the adapter, the first row, 2nd roundish square pin connector head was a complete square shape in the batch we received it so it could not fit into the 6970's we were using in the builds.

So yeah, need to watch out for that problem if your adapter doesn't fit in, as been stated the adapters have been standardized (actually think it was the 7"""series not the 8).

Alright thanks for your answer. Like I said I just bought molex to pcie from ebay, 5$ shipped for a pack of two. This can be worth the try.

the molex to pci should be fine. a 650w is plenty for you setup.

i had two 460s and i loved them, gave my terrific performance. i could play bf3 on 1920x1080 on high settings and not drop below 60fps.

Thanks for your answer. Will prolly take another 460GTX soon at the price they are. Can get them at 70 shipped, this will be my best bang for the buck.
