Skyrim Stuttering

I'm having constant stutters every couple seconds outdoors, even if standing in the same location turning in place. Completely breaks any immersion and is extremely annoying. According to fraps my fps is between 55-120 and doesn't appear to have any spikes corresponding to the stuttering. No other game has this problem.

Things I've tried:
- Clean install of Skyrim, with only the HD DLC textures installed
- Default INI settings
- Moved the game to a SSD, no improvement over a regular HD
- Turned AA / AF off
- Update drivers. Made custom profile with AA forced off.
- Mouse and 360 Gamepad input. Neither input device made a difference.

Spent most of the morning searching for fixes but didn't find anything helpful. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the 120 hz monitor.

Specs
2500k @ 4.3 ghz
2gb 6950 (single card)
8 Gb Ram
1920x1080 120hz monitor

Is vsynch on in any capacity? (game or drivers)
Have you tried a less aggressive overclock?
Are you -sure- you have no mods? (Steam auto-enables them from previous installs)

I have a 120hz monitor and played a marathon on a new char through reg content + all DLC with no issues and over 70 mods.

It seems like a overclock or driver level issue to me.

I always read that disabling vsync makes the game behave very erratically so I did not attempt to force it off. I went ahead and tried iPresetInterval=0 but did not help the issue any (fps was uncapped). Just installed the latest beta drivers from AMD as well. I never installed any mods through Steam apart from the official texture pack. Verified through the launcher.

Okay, I finally found someone with a similar issue. He had a similar system except with a 7950. He pointed out something interesting that is true for me as well: The stutter only exists in first person mode. As long as I'm in third person the game is perfectly smooth. The solution he finally came to however was to cap the framerate at 59 using a 3rd party utility.

I think I rather just play in third person than deal with reduced framerate.

Shantarr are you also using an AMD card? I remember playing Skyrim before without this issue now that I think about it but it was before I had the 120 hz monitor. Maybe it's some weird compatibility / card issue (even though the monitor is intended for AMD 3D).

It's AMD. Get nvidia it will be smooth. I had a 7970 and Skyrim was stuttering all over the place. Went back to 670... all was well.

The sooner AMD releases stable drivers that address frame latency, the better.

Probably his Intel CPU. My Skyrim runs fine on this 8120 and 7950 without stutters @70 fps with a ridiculous mod list. :)

On a more serious note, if you are using Microsoft Security Essentials and you've recently installed software on your PC it will analyze it for hours and then upload it to the Microsoft website. This makes all of my games go wonky with stuttering for a bit until it is finished with the file as my CPU speed will continuously cycle from low to high even if gaming . If you think it is the drivers, use the 13.3 drivers. They work great for me.

I too get this, and many other issues with skyrim, I have yet to find a workaround.

A lot of people have had a hard time with Skyrim. I had to give up on my old computer, thankfully this one works without a problem. Hope you get everything worked out though so you can actually enjoy the game.
