Had to turn off Xfire in Skyrim because it caused very negative performance. WTF didn't they test the game in the very common Xfire mode? It's 2011 and not 2001 FFS!

This isn't Bethesda's fault, AMD completely dropped the ball on this one. Their drivers have been really bad with Crossfire support lately.

No matter what we may think of the games, of the last three AAA titles with new engines, only one launched with any form of Crossfire support (BF3), one is still broken a month after release with no ETA (Rage), and the third, Skyrim, launches with brutal negative scaling and overall driver issues around the board, with CatalystCreator stating that there is no ETA for a Skyrim Crossfire Profile, or even an optimized driver.

Note, that nVidia has SLI working, and released their drivers before the launch of one of the most anticipated games of the year. They support high-end setups much better than AMD does at the moment.

I still love my unlocked 6950's, and I think they're great hardware, but, the support has been shameful as of late.

I think this will be my first and last Xfire setup. Not worth the hassle IMO. What are the other driver issues in Skyrim? I'm using the newish 11.10 driver and have noticed no other issues except a couple of bright texture flashes happen but I've seen that happen in lots of games.

There have been many nVidia users claiming sli isn't working very well, gpu usage only being %60-70 per card. I'm pissed that eyefinity isn't working properly either.

Not flaming, but this is exactly the reason I switched from 5970. Xfire support is really subpar. I hope ATI gets this straightened out.

Tom's Hardware says ATI is working on a Xfire fix for Skyrim right now.

I sure hope so. I swore I would never do another xfire setup after my 4870's because of the piss poor support. I guess I should have know better. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice...

This is my first and last crossfire setup as well.. still waiting on the Rage crossfire fix, haven't even played it yet because of that. And now xfire negative scaling on a release like Skyrim, you'd think with how popular the game is they'd be ready for this.

I really wish kyle would grill AMD on why their drivers and multi-gpu support has been lacking. Big game release after another and AMD not only has problems with single gpu's but they can't even get their multi-gpu scaling working right away.

Oh yeah we are working on skyrim crossfire support/profiles, won't release them till mon or tues. What a joke. Looks like I'll probably go with nvidia again on my next upgrade in 1-2 years.

yea tell me about it a game this big and amd cant have at least some kind of beta or cap out by now is bs.

And I always get crapped on for being loyal to intel/SLI, but guess what only had one driver problem ever, and it was with a DOS game hahaha.(damn you X-COM). I'd rather have 70% usage on two cards then only being able to use one.

This is the last time I pay full price for a game. Seems like it takes a year for them to iron out all the bugs. In regards to crossfire its working now but if you want to do Trifire forget it! I only have like 2 gpus working out of my three 6970s. Is this a driver bug or related to the game?

Thanks

the tri-fire issues are related to the game, mostly because tri-fire + skyrim is a waste of energy, lol.

I had the same card and support was good for about a year but then went to total shit, the hardware starting to artefact was the last straw and I ditched it for a 580, it will be quite a while before I return to AMD cards after that expensive mistake.

That is true is you run stock settings. Which most people dont who run with multiple video cards.

I myself with my setup with certain tweaks mods get up to around 1.4gigs of memory and 99% usage on all my gpu's while I play skyrim.

I honestly think its bad coding from AMD, That one of the many reasons I sold my 6970 and 6990.

Skyrim is heavily CPU bound game. The graphics actually are not that great. You don't need multi-GPU to play it at max settings though you do need a beefy CPU.

That depends mostly on screen resolution, at 2560x1600 or a higher resolution multi-monitor solution you might need to consider multi-GPU to max everything.

I just tried Skyrim and I'm getting heavy pixelated distortions with my crossfired 6870s.

What a joke.

I doubt crossfire will ever work on this game, I've given up trying. I just disable crossfire each time I play skyrim. Fortunately it runs great on a single 6870.

If you're getting any messed up textures or artifacting, try disabling aa (fxaa is fine). Something when wonky with the release of the 12.x drivers.

I can play it fine on one 6870, but I'm playing on a 30" 2560x1600 display. I'll try disabling aa.

Yup. And when you start adding mods with higher res textures, etc, muliple GPUs are most definitely needed at 2560x1600.

Well I tried playing it with AA disabled and the game looks fine now. The only problem is that AA is disabled... haha.

Try enabling fxaa. To me to it looked acceptable, but not everyone may agree :p
But it at least allowes for some aa smoothing without that artifacting giberish on screen.

I have no problems with my two 6970's.

Run the 12.1 drivers. Through all my testing that seems to work best.

Minimal issues at 2560x1600... I'm pretty sure with all the texture packs and modified INI I dropped it down to 8x aa.... but still runs smooth.

With an older proc!

Are you getting positive scaling with crossfire enabled? I could run the game decently in crossfire but my fps was about 10 frames lower with crossfire enbled.

Most definitely (2x6970s). I noticed a quite large positive increase in FPS with it enabled. The issues I had however were textures flickering and popping in/out, which went away when crossfire was disabled.

Absolutely positive scaling. It runs just fine. I was actually surprised this thread came back because im at 190 hours and haven't had issues beyond the first few weeks.

Afterburner shows between 75% and 95% utilization for both cards.

Except when trying to move away from the 12.1 drivers, so im staying with those.
