First, I will ask my question: Has or will Bethesda fix this issue?

If you aren't familiar with this issue I will try to explain it, or at least how I have interpreted it after reading many forum posts on it.

Basically Skyrim has a problem with save game files becoming larger and larger over time and eventually becoming so large that they will produce constant CTD's and terrible performance, this can be attributed to a few different things. For some reason the game keeps track of every single item you drop and where it drops. This includes; arrows, corpse, weapons, shields, armor, bottles, piles of ash, piles of goo, etc, etc... After hours of game time if you primarily use a bow or turn people ash/raise zombies these things seriously start to add up and the save game file starts to increase from it's starting size of ~5mb. At about ~15-20mb the save starts to cause performance issues like hitching, longer loading and saving times, crashing, and save corruption.

I really wanted to finish this game and started playing as soon as it came out but after about 100 hours of game time it was constantly crashing. After reformatting I never bothered to reinstall it because from what I can tell, there has never been a fix for this. It's like I have to make sure not to use arrows and pick up every single item that has been dropped or else I'll lose my save games. There is supposedly a way that kind of fixes it. You have to wait in an area such as your house and rest for 30 consecutive days. After this time the "cells" or zones are supposed to clean up and reset. This only works partly and many things still remain or are even duplicated.

What the hell is the deal with this?

This was a huge issue on the PS3, and supposedly it was addressed.

During my PC play through, it wasn't an issue for me. The only time I got crashing is when I changed uGrids to 9.

I believe the Unofficial Skyrim Patch fixes this.

And here lies the problem, Bugthesda can't even fix a simple issue like this. But... some random people on the internet do. Kind of surprising since it hurts the consoles more than the PC.

i just hope that the community relations director notices what people are saying in response to the MMO... and speaks up in a meeting: "uh, hey guys? We might want to make a co-op dlc. Lots of people want to pay us for such a thing. We'd be fucking stupid not to. "

Didn't they resolve that by making World of Elder Scroll?

TBH, though, I kind of like how it looks. Just wondering on how it plays.

As for the save issue, I ....... only have like 50 saves I think. So I never even knew this happened.

Hey, Bethesda did fix the atomic Nirnroot bug (one of the bloating causes)! Of course, it only took them ~8 months, which is about 7 months longer than it took the community. :p

Hehe... you and your co-op DLC.

Yea i realized i was completely offtopic in that post, but damnit i couldn't help myself ><

shutting up! ^_^

(seriously tho they should make one lol)

If they added co-op DLC to Skyrim, then they'll need co-op in TESVI. It also removes a possible selling point for TESVI.

You can usually rely on Bethesda to do really shoddy engineering. I mean, the guys shipped a completely unoptimized executable — something where the difference between poor performance and great performance is a two character compiler flag. I can think of few ways it gets any worse than that, but admittedly saving such a complete and complicated state of the world to saved games is pretty high up on the totem poll of poor engineering.

Damnit. That's the best argument against their releasing one i've heard yet.

I believe you now :(

We won't see it because it would have to come after the MMO so it doesn't stomp on that game's sales, and then by that time they'll have the next elder scrolls ready.

How reliable is the USP? I've heard mixed reviews...

Most people seem to have no problems with it. There are other mods that also have bloat fixes in them but I think all of those are out-of-date and can cause crashing.

Have you tested the Sounds of Skyrim mods which you showed me in a PM awhile back? I heard rumors that they were removed for the above reason, and they're likely in that state. However, while using them i never noticed any issues.

Only SoS - Civilization is problematic, and that is when it is uninstalled. He was using a script that allowed the sound volume to be changed in the game's menu or something and that is the cause.

You mean that the mod only became problematic when you uninstall it?

Yes. Cliffworms was sent the fixed script a couple days after the bloating was reported but he was already gone by then.

Oh well shit. That's no reason to pull a mod imo lol

Especially one as good as these sounds mods. Takes the immersion up to a whole new level. Thanks for the info, dj.
