Anybody knows why MC keeps jacking up their Skylake CPUs (at least the Ks) prices? Initially, the 6700K started at $319.99, then went to $359.99, and now it's $379.99. The 6600K started at $199.99, then $219.99 and now it's $249.99.

Any ideas?
 
Supply and demand. And this is prime gift card season. Prepare to see prices go up for a while!
 
I was interested in getting a 6700K system as well since an upgrade bug bit me. Then saw retailers were price gouging or the 6700K wasn't in stock.

Since that is the type of asshattery that I despise, I went and got a replacement for my old 3930K - an E5 1650V2 that overclocks to 4.5GHz and stays under 68C with big air in Prime95. Only cost me $120 after I sold the 3930K, and is just as good for gaming as a 6700K.

Screw the price gougers, buy used!
 
Or buy Haswell. It's still being sold, and the 4790k is pretty close to the 6700k.

Just give it a month to settle back down. The Christmas shoppers are going bananas because this is Intel's first real CPU architecture in 2.5 years. But the prices had already stabilized back in October before the holiday season took off.
 
It's going to keep fluctuating as long as its in demand. Surprising to see, makes me want to hold off on a new build, at $379 now (including a "$10 discount").
 
Wow! Just when I thought they won't go any higher, now the 6600K is sitting at $269.99 (up from $249.99) and the 6700K is $399.99 (up from $379.99)! Oh man!
 
i5-6600k is $350 in Canada and Cheapest Z170 is $150. (fuck mail in rebates)

Blame it on the Canadian Peso

Do you remember when they had Sandy Bridge i5-2500k for $99 for a day? I went to MC and got i5-3570k instead since 2500ks were sold out. They used to send me coupons for $20 off. There were some great deals to be had.:)

I know this is going to sound crazy in a world where prices always go down from the original price, but every once in a while, so many people want a certain product that there isn't enough of that product for everyone. Since this country isn't Communist (despite what certain faux news channels might tell you), when a product has limited supply and high demand, rather than make consumers wait in lines for products that stay at the same price, capitalism allows companies to raise the price on a product until only those with enough money are able to afford to buy the product. And it's not even illegal! Unless you're conspiring with several other companies that make the same product to keep the price high, but that, of course, is not the case here because Intel is the only company making high-end desktop CPUs.

You should be a fan of price wars since they drive prices DOWN to under cut their competitor. This isn't a price war. It's supply & demand raising the prices.

Once the demand goes down the prices should follow suit. Then again they may not. Since AMD isn't here to really provide any competition they're able to sell them for nearly whatever price they want regardless of demand or supply. We shall see though.

Yes, I used the incorrect term. What I hate the most though is products that everyone knows will be in demand so they buy as many as possible to scalp when the supply is shot.

Reverse price wars was a thing too. When ATI came out with the X850xt pe and nvidia's ultra, due to demand and huge lack of supply they both kept creeping up in price. It seemed like they were trying to out do one another on the most expensive video card.
 
I went into a micro center for the first time last week.. had never been to one before. I live about 2.5 hours from one. When I got there I thought they were having some special event or something.. it was PACKED.. I asked a sale rep if there was something special going on today because you could barely walk down the isles and he said no, its always like this lol.. Could not believe it haha.

Yea that is how it is generally. If you go during the holidays you almost cannot walk down at all.
 
The 6600k is back to $249.99, but the 6700k remains at $399.99.
 
Newegg lowered the 6700K to $419.50, a savings of .50 cents. :D The 6700K+Gaming 7+3400 16GB combo doesn't seem like a bad deal at $664 with MIR.

I'm still trying to decide between Skylake and Broadwell-E and I want to get a new system built before the Windows 10 deadline on July 29th. I like the idea of six cores even though I may not put them to good use regularly and I like that the HEDT chips use solder/epoxy over thermal paste but the question is whether Broadwell-E will even be out by then. Building a new system is suppose to be fun right? :rolleyes:
 
Waiting for the 6600K to fall in price myself. Wife got me the MSI Z170 M5 motherboard for Christmas. Carrying over most things from my i7-930 rig & everything else needed has been purchased. I really don't want to pay more than I have to for the CPU though. I'm patient enough to wait though since my i7-930 still holds up well. Especially since I decided to use my GTX 970 GPU in that rig for now.
 
Time to wait to get the CPU for my build lmao rip.
Maybe ill get lucky and run into someone doing a sale on a i5 on the forum.
