Got a few questions for anybody who's had their hands on a skulltrail:

1. I've got a pair of E5440's that I want to put in a Skulltrail board. They're 1333 CPUs, does that mean my RAM will run at 667 MHz?

2. If I OC the bus to 1600 will that force the RAM to 800 MHz?

3. I'm unfamiliar with that memory platform, does it matter how many memory modules I run?

4. How come I can only find a couple places online that actually have the board? Is ~$650 an okay price or can I get one cheaper?

I haven't been able to find one in stock anywhere- I have read they'll be available in April. (ie- soon). Where have you seen them?

I believe the answers to 1) and 2) are both yes.

3) Usually with FB-DIMMS and intel 5xxx chipsets, you have to run modules in pairs, though the skulltrail might be special.
 
memory runs asynchronis with the fsb. you cpu clock has no effect on ram on this board. one of its flaws

No, RAM and processor FSB are clocked independently on the Intel D5400XS motherboard.

Technically it isn't a Skulltrail board. Skulltrail is the code name for the platform which as of its' release is now called the Intel® Dual Socket Extreme Desktop Platform. By definition the platform requires the Intel D5400XS motherboard and two Core 2 Extreme QX9775 LGA771 processors. A board without both of the processors is not a Skulltrail board or Skulltrail platform. Nor would it be a Intel® Dual Socket Extreme Desktop Platform system either. It is just an Intel D5400XS motherboard if you are using Xeons with it. Intel is just like this when it comes to their platform names. For example a Centrino isn't a processor, but rather a platform with specific hardware required to qualify the machine for the Centrino branding and label. A Core 2 Duo Mobile processor is part of the Centrino platform but it isn't a Centrino by itself when used in a system that doesn't have all the hardware Intel requires to get the Centrino label.

No. The RAM will run at either 533MHz, 667MHz, or 800MHz depending on what FB-DIMMs you end up selecting and what speed they are actually rated for. Depending on their SPD values as well You can manually adjust the memory clock and timings for your modules if you desire.

YES! You can run two modules for dual channel mode but the best thing to do is run 4 modules for quad-channel memory mode. That will give you the most bandwidth and hopefully offset the performance penalties normally associated with FB-DIMMs.

The cheapest one I have seen is from Provantage.com. It was $614 I believe.

You can run 1333MHz FSB processors or 1600MHz FSB processors with 533MHz or 667MHz FB-DIMMs if that's what you really want. The memory and FSB clocks have nothing to do with one another.
