Hey all, I just built a new system, and im having an odd problem.. When listening to mp3s in windows media player, the audio will skip every so often. I donw know if this is related to my soundcard or another component. Anyone have any clues? thanks

It's probably related to the fact that windows media player is a piece of trash. Get something decent like foobar2000.

i just realized it seems to skip on everything. not just WMP. it skips on mp3 playback on all 3 programs i have and it skips on games. its not like every 2 seconds or anything, its like every 2-4 minutes or so. its just annoying.

Sounds like something is occasionally loading your CPU. Try listening to music is some player besides windows media player (like Winamp) and keep task manager open. Watch it for ten minutes.

If the music skips at the same time CPU usage spikes to 100% then some crap program or spyware is jacking you. If not then there's probably a problem with your soundcard.

Was going to say the exact same thing. Failing that, reinstall both your chipset and audio drivers with the latest version

Upgraded your mb bios lately? I've heard of a similar problem relating to IRQ issues.

Ok, i checked to see if it was the cpu spiking, and its not. I havent changed the bios, it came with the newest one. i tried reinstalling the soundcard drivers. guess i'll try the chipset drivers. man, this sucks. I sent an email to creative too. maybe they have an idea what it could be..
