Is there anyone who has any feedback on these SSD;s? I can't find anything on em and you can pickup their drives for pretty cheap.

IMO if it's not intel, Samsung, crucial it's not worth the risk. The thing that would put me off most to them is if you search any of the 3 I mentioned + SSD, on the first two pages there will be a mix of places to buy and product reviews, with sk Hynix ssd on the first two pages I see a few places to buy and a lot of press releases. I'm pretty much put off by any product in any category which when you search for it, the first few pages are mostly press releases...
 
I do agree with you to a certain extent. I have 2 Intel SSDs in my main rig here and I think if I did not go with intel, my only other choice would be samsung. But when building a 100% performance rig for gaming only, I really would not care about data loss or time waiting on an RMA etc. I have used Adata, Verbatim and OCZ drives and have only had an OCZ go bad after a year.
 
well I have been using my OCZ Agility 3 60gb for close to 2 years now at least, no major problems. I did move things to help the amount of writes so it hopefully lasts longer, beyond that, love it.

Specs for that drive mentioned seem similar to my agi 3 though. It is based on the controller being used, Intel has failures just the same as everyone else, though they do a very through screening(apprently) so is less likely to be an issue, crucial is probably the better in this regard cause of controlles they use(usually micron) Samsung uses thier own controllers(this can be god or bad dpendign on how you look at it, they are a behemoth of course) this one seems to use a sandforce derived controller(go figure, same thing as quite a few of the higher end devices including OCZ, Intel, Corsair etc) and will be getting LAMD controllers soon as they are taking them over.

Generally speaking, most say it is better to go with Micron, then LAMD/Samsung, then Sandforce and the others for the "lifetime" of the product, the only thing I do not like about OCZ is thier customer support has always been crud hence why the left memory business(to many complaints?) and the way of updating the SSD is suckage, but beyond that, not many I personally know have any issues with OCZ SSD or even Sandforce based drives(using proper firmware) so this is probably a good drive as well.

So if you want 100% performance why not go with a Samsung 840 pro which has demonstrated better performance in reviews than that drive has in press releases.
 
Performance for price. As an example you can raid0 2 120gb sk ssds for 150$ and get around 1000mb/s reads 900mb/s writes or pay for one Samsung pro 128gb with that 150$ for 40% of that performance

sammy pro 840 even 512 gb will not hit those kinds of speeds, and I assume, because they highlight the raid capabilities, it must keep all the TRIM and such active when raided, alot of other SSD lose this ability, so yeh performance/$ the sk hynix def win, sandforce may not be the "nicest" controllers, but they have also had quite a few newer drives use the 2281 controller they offer, so they have had lots of expertise in "tuning" it.

It is very much comparing a corvette from the factory to a ferrari in regards to sheer speed(toggle is the fastest flash memory currently being used, the onfi synchronous is very fast compared to most, but is still in a different league i.e enthusiast vs performance vs something with standard flash async in real world usage)

So yeh, you are comparing a performance SSD with an enthusiast grade one, not quite comparable, be like saying well a gtx680 is faster then a 660ti, or an i7 is definately faster then a pentium, well I sure as hell hope so :p

Anyways, price/$ also all the little things like the controller being used(sandforce-samsung) flash(ONFI synch vs toggle etc) compare a sammy 840 non pro to a single one of these drives then say which is better. There is also the "life" of the product, the one thing this drive does have is a good lifespan of the memory being used, not sure with the toggle but the TLC used on standard 840 is a "known" short life, if it is fragged.

http://computerhardwareupgrades.blo...12/05/comparing-different-nand-types-and.html while not comparing the drives directly, it does showcase the strengths of each type of memory, as well as various controllers, synch with the 2281 is damn good toggle is best, 2281 is a "known" controller and has given strengths and weaknesses, the sammy is quite new so who really knows how long they live, what truly hurts their performance and the like.

Anyways I digress, both have similar speeds purely on specs alone, this drive is very good $/performance, the sammy is quite a bit more $ for the given performance, but also probably has very specifc things it excels at vs the sandforce based controllers.

Point is, don`t compare the enthusiast level product with a performance grade one, it does not jusitfy itself or what it competes against, the 840 pro vs a neutron GTX, Vertx 4 and such thats different.

In other words, I would rather spend $140+tax for 2 128gb drives rated at 510r/470w each, (900r/800w 'ish in R0, I know that wont be actual), compared to the $480. Its why I am asking if anyone has any first hand exp with the SK drives :D

Dude you're getting yourself all worked up over a press release from a company with 0 history in the SSD market. Sure they make RAM but I think we all remember how well that worked out with OCZ. I don't even see where you're coming up with this $70/drive figure as every place I've seen sell it had it in the $95-100 range. And to top it all off you want to put 2 untested drives in RAID-0 and double your chances of something going wrong!

I know you say it's "just" your gaming machine but do you really want your gaming machine down for a few weeks while you discover that when it comes to customer support you get what you pay for? Intel/Samsung/Crucial support is fairly well known in these parts to be good, Hynix, a big unknown.

Personally I wouldn't touch one of these drives for at least a year or two until they have some sort of history under their belt, the SSD quality field is way too wide, even back in the HDD glory days when there were like 10 mfgs and Maxtor was a steaming pile of shit compared to everybody else the quality gap wasn't half of what the SSD gap is.

At least wait for some decent websites to do a review on these before pulling the trigger, I mean to get so excited over press releases is just dangerous.
 
I havent read any press releases, I found 128g for 68$. Perhaps you read wrong, I am not talking up these drives, or saying what a great deal they are etc. I want to know if anyone has bought one or has exp with them so I can get a better idea of the drives.

And as far as storage having nothing to do with gaming? I have already had this discussion elsewhere. What about how long it takes to load the game, or a level? Or what if you run a local server to host a game? Your storage device's performance does affect game paying as well, depending on the game your playing.

Using iometer and playing crysys 3, this is my result. (results were not from the loading of the game or continuing a game etc.)

Hrmmm...

Compared to running iometer with BF2, I had max 188.2mb written and 23.29mb read (aprox, I can't find the doc.) I don't know the specifics of what crysys 3 uses the storage device for and what it writes so much of, but it does.

I am not looking for advice on what you think I should buy, or if I should run ssd's in raid0 or not. I don't care about your concerns over my possible future data loss and how I am increasing my chances of drive failure. I am looking for anyone who has purchased an SK drive and what they think about it.

Your OP was a press release, all the great performance stats you've been touting are from said press release, there's been no reviews of these things I can find directly but if this review of a rebadged Hynix is any indication those numbers you posted are for highly compressible data which means you'll pretty much have to RAID-0 these things to see similar performance. But I'm assuming your $68 deal isn't generally available to the public, if I'm wrong feel free to link to it because at that price I'm sure some on here would be willing to bite.

Saw this the other day on Newegg when I was looking to buy my first SSD. Opted for the 480GB Mushkin for the size and price.

Apparently the SK Hynix drives are just repackaged Strontium Hawk drives.

It sounds like it has potential, just SK Hynix not having any foot hold in the market. Surprised I haven't heard up anyone anywhere drumming up support or talk about them. They look incredible on paper.

Haha apparently we both posted the same link too. Well in a nutshell it was in the lower quarter of drives tested, but it still seemed to live up to its numbers. Seems it just doesn't have much market evaluation or long term testing to know for sure. If I had the money I'd probably pick it up.

A single SSD will not get only 40% of the performance of a RAID 0. A single 840 pro will net 90 to 110% of the performance of the RAID0 in most desktop usage patterns. Remember that desktop applications typically do not read or write GB files sequentially or read / write with a very high queue depth so the 1000 MB/s is not that meaningful since it will rarely be achieved other than running benchmarks.
