Current monitor is a Dell 2407WFP- a great monitor, but it's now 8 years old and I want something bigger before the end of the year. Not coincidentally, I'm also looking to do a brand new system- the current computer isn't quite from 2006 like the monitor, but it's not that far off.
I'd like to move up to something in the 27"+ range, preferably something that can be kept around for a number of years, unless it's truly cheap enough to replace. I'd be willing to pay up to $1000 for the monitor, so figure something under $400 or so could be shorter term (3-4 years), while something closer to $1000 should be able to go longer (at least 6 years).
Thoughts I've had:
*One of the 28" 4k screens. A lot of reviews that are good, a lot that are pretty poor.
*Wait for Asus PB279Q later this year. Only issue is that 27" seems small for 4k, but the screen should make up for the 28" range issues.
*Figure that 4k isn't a mature technology yet and get a 27-30" screen in that low price range for right now, replacing it later on when screens are better and video cards more capable of handling 4k.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this issue?
Edit: I should probably mention that this monitor will be used most often for reading text (sadly, I'm an adult these days), and after that for gaming. DA3 will be the most demanding thing run on it, once it comes out, followed probably by DA2; I never play FPSs, to the extent that matters.
