We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

Just curious... how large is the mysql database? Mine is 10mb with almost 8000 posts and 250 users... this forum must be a few gigs.

Also is this forum on a dedicated server? I would imagine with all the users online and posts that go on it has to be dedicated...

Ive always wondered that. Must take some good servers to keep hardforum up and running. I hope it has a redundant backupserver ;).

45,000 members... Must be a good post or two that are worth keeping.

No clue about the database size, but I do know that the [H] is hosted on dedicated servers by ThePlanet hosting.

How long before an account gets marked as unactive?

Kyle would be the one to answer the specifics here.

The purging of inactive accounts is not automatic. When it's been done, it's been on a basis of last activity being either 90 or 120 days (I forget). That means that a person visited while logged in or with an active cookie. Does not mean they had to have posted, just visited.

Wow... how randomly off topic...

Yea I would image the database is atleast 5Gigs... thats HUGE :)

I figured I would stick it in there while I could, instead of making a new thread.

My apologies.

LOL Thread stealer... just playing. It was just really random... LOL

Anyway... admin maybe clue us in on the size and stuff :)

A forum I run has 2.8 million posts (2.4 here) and it's only 3 gigs, so I'd figure it'd be about the same here depending on average post size (though mine is Invision vs. vBulletin here).

Database Data Disk Usage 1,595.78 MB

Database Index Disk Usage 1,185.99 MB

Actually we own our own servers, ThePlanet provides bandwidth, power, and of course the cabinets.

The forum has a dedicated database server that is a dually 2800+ AthlonXP setup with 4GB RAM, 1 RAID5 array (3 15K RPM SCSI) for OS, 1 RAID0 array (2 15K RPM SCSI) for Index, and 1 RAID0 array (3 15K RPM SCSI) for data. We back up to another server.

For web, HardOCP and HardForum share 3 dually Opteron servers. All are brand new and have been purchased in the last year. So I think they are all 2.2GHz or better with 4GB ram each.

The question of the day.

Do you have uploads or avatars enabled? If so, thats why your database is ballooned.

Well thats what you need to run this forum as smooth as butter :). Which it is, even with all these users posting and stuff. Nice work [H]!

I am sooooooooo glad that the [H] does NOT allow avatars and sig pics.....I despise those things.

Please NEVER allow it [H], please. :)

Yes, and it would just kill bandwidth and site would be slow. Plus its more to moderate...

It's funny that once a question is answered in this forum it turns into the "poor man's General Mayhem". :D
