sis 7018 / ac97 not working..

ok... i put xp on my grandma's computer.. and i can't get her sound to work..

her motherboard is an ECS k7sem. i went to the ecs site for drivers and they have 4 revisions of that board.. it shouldn't matter that i know of.. cause they all have the sis7018 audio chip on them..

i installed a fwe different versions of the driver and windows says everything is fine.. but when i go into winamp, it will just sit there.. i hiit play and it does nothing..

so what is wrong here? i am going to pop off the side of the case and see what the revision of the board is..

yes it is enabled in the bios.. i thought that might be it..
