These supose to be any good when they come out? Im not asking because I might buy... I was just wondering. It looks neat, but is probably garbage like most neat PSUs.

I prefer constructive criticism over complete condemnation. ;) Besides, I've got two PCs here that've been running with Youngyear based units for over a year, and I'm afraid if they hear me say something bad they'll release some bad ju-ju on me. :D
You are right, post something constructive, ok.

I believe that once you remove the useless guts from the PSU case,
that the PSU case can be used for something constructive, like a squirel feeder! ;)

Leave the guts and cook the squirel :D

jonnyGURU: If I insult it will you review it?

LOVE the out of context quote.

Actually, I guess "Not Recommended" is pretty accurate. I neither recommended it or condemned it. ;) But I do think it's overpriced and the pots are a recipe for disaster... so not recommended is probably a good way to sum it up. :D

Oh you think yours looks bad out of context....look at mine in there. Not sure what it is even doing there.

Dunno. Dave's got some more reading to do and bought another bottle of scotch? ;)

According to Sintek customer service both power supplies are being tested by nVidia now for their certification as well as ATI's.

For those interested, I have identified the OEM thanks to this review:

http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/sintek/

OEM is Wintech, like the Ultra X-Finitys. Had to ID them using only part of the UL file number combined with the model numbers on the label, but I'm reasonably convinced Wintech is who makes them.

Excellent work

Wintech? Really? Damn... I thought for sure it was a Youngyear.

What's funny is the new Ultra X-Connect X2 is now made by Wintech and not Youngyear.

I guess Yongyear is getting kicked to the curb by everybody. :D

Not that that's a bad thing ;)

Unfortunately, Aspire still seems to be Youngyear - maybe they'll follow the winds of change too.

What interest me is how Sintek gets approved by ATI without ever selling a single PSU? I know NVIDIA has an official list for SLI certified power supplies, but where is ATI's list?

Wouldn't that be freaky?

LOL! How true.

It seems that ATI is in real trouble as their long awaited R520's are duds! :(

Oh so you missed that fiasco. Well there is much debate about where sanders numbers came from....prevailing theory 1) OEM's looking to sandbag him 2) his rear end. Check the [H] news from yesterday or the day before.
Thanks, I have missed alot in only a week.

Hate to bump the thread, but looking at some internal pics, there are no markings whatsoever. Look at how they implemented their airflow solution...

Interesting... I can't tell who made that. Perhaps Sintek is using more than one OEM, or are using Wintech type model numbers. Looks like ok build quality though.

Nope. That plastic sheet on the fan means it's ALL Wintech. The 500W X-Finity I got from Ultra didn't have the plastic sheet on it (and it's what I'm using in my main rig) and I haven't had any problems. But the X-Finity I bought from Fry's (I bought one with my own $$$ to make sure Ultra didn't ship me some cherry picked sample unit) had the EXACT SAME plastic sheet on it.

When I emailed Ultra about why the unit I received from them didn't have the plastic yet the one I bought from Fry's did, they said the engineers at Wintech felt it was wiser to direct the air more towards the back of the power supply to help cool things down. It supposedly lowered PSU temps as much as 10C without making it any louder.

Also, just like the Sintek, the PSU I bought at Fry's had no "WIN" marking on any of the components.. unlike my "sample." But unlike Sintek, the Ultra still had the UL number on the box that stated it was made by Wintech.
