just thought i'd make sure everyone knows that there is now a single slot 3870... the store i got it from had no idea... they were even advertising it as dual slot... and when i asked if they carried the single slot, they said no... i ended up buying one anyway and when i opened it, i was surprised to see a single slot card...

Single slot 3870's have been out for a while. Sapphire has three different models I think, one at factory clock settings, two overclocked.

There're pros and cons for Dual vs Single slot cards.
Dual: take up two expansion slots, cover the PCI slots but it will exhaust the hot air out at the back of the case.

Signle: hot air will stay in the case, you must better have good case air flow for this. It doesn't interfering the PCI slots.

It makes me wonder why Sapphire going with single slot for HD3870?...perhaps it doesn't produce a lot of heat?

I would say. I am running consistently at 29-30c idle with the Accelero S1 on it without a fan attached to it so i would say massive cooling is not essential.

Assuming his siggy is up to date, I'd say 2x stock speed Sapphire 3870HD's. The two OCed Sapphires are the Atomic and the Toxic..so since he didn't add that, I'm assuming/guessing he got the single slot stock speed ones with the blue PCB.
