single pass better then double pass?

It depends upon what you are trying to achieve. Sometimes single pass is better sometimes double pass is better.
 
For a large number of scenarios and flow rates, more suitable to what is seen in people's typical setups, double-pass is better. For high flow rates (>8LPM) and and a single-row core, single-pass can be better. At lesser flow rates for single-row cores, it's a bit of a toss-up as to which is better, but for flow rates <4LPM, double-pass tends to work better. For double row cores, then double-pass is almost always better unless talking about stupendously high flow rates (>4gpm).

The above is just broad generalisations, it's really on a case-by-case basis, and it can also depend on how well/poorly the end-tanks are being implemented in the double-pass scenario.

Generally speaking though, double-pass is better in terms of a "safe bet". Unless you're provided with information that details otherwise, or the radiator has been purposely built with the advantages of single-pass in mind (rather than its single-pass implementation just being driven by ill-informed market demand), then double-pass is almost always the safer option to go with.
