is it best to have a power supply with a single 12v rail or dual 12v rails for optimal performance and stability for single video card systems (X1900XTX)?

IMHO, the number of amperes on the 12V rail matter more than the single or dual on a system like yours. The brand and model matters too.

Do you have any pick to check ?

Can someone please answer his question? I need to know also. I have an aspire 500w single rail and I am buying a XION powerreal 600w for my new X1800XT. Is this a waste of money? Could my aspire handle it or do i need the upgraded dual 12v rail?

Your current Aspire can almost definitely handle an x1800xt.
I don't have the knowledge to answer whether or not dual 12v rails are really required, though the sticky implies to just add the amps on each 12v when making a decision, so my guess is there isn't any significant difference, though I'd recommend waiting for someone with more knowledge to answer it.

This is one of those it depends situations. It depends on the whole system, and the PSU. THe Aspire is a bad bad plan.

Yea, Spectre is probably right. The Aspire has worked fine with the Geforce 6800 ultra and my current Sapphire Radeon x850 XT....but there is no way in hell im gonna trust it to handle a radeon x1800 XT 512mb.

Plus, the aspire only has the 20pin ATX connector and no PCI-e connectors. I am excited to have the 24pin to fit nicely into my Asus motherboard and have 2 PCI-e power connectors.

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=974240 will tell you to stay far far far far far ... far far far ... far away from Aspire.

And I agreed with Spectre, it depends on the computer setup but with a single card and a normal amount of drives, either one work fine. Get a nice name brand not in the list in the link provided there.

After 1 year of intense gaming and refusing to shut down my computer...my aspire 500w has served me very well. And its the coolest looking PSU on the market. If you have one, enjoy it for the colors. If you don't have one, don't get one and save yourself the worry.
