single core upgrade

id like to upgrade my comp because my current system isnt cutting it for games.

with this set up ive been thru a water cooling system, and a heatsinkfan bla bla.

in my opinion it wasnt worth the amount i spent because i never got all too amazing perfomance and ive been dealing with crashes since day 1.

so im now im looking to upgrade. i think ive settled on single core because i dont do anything other then play a few games, and cruise the net. maybe ill burn a cd or dvd everyone once in a blue moon but the more money for the duel core doesnt seem to be really worth the price difference.

id like to be running around 3gig and just want some opinions on possible cpu/mobo combos. im not against getting an amd nor overclocking but i dont want to have to get into aftermarket cooling and i want this set up to be very reliable. and id like it to be relativly inexpensive.

Well, If youre going for single core, you want to keep it cheap and only want something around 3gig... your choices are these...

Get a 478 proc (ive got lots of 3.0Cs and 3.0E's if you want one), a cheap 865PE board and keep your AGP card and RAM. This would probably be cheapest

get a 775 chip and a cheap motherboard... only advantage here would be DDR2 and PCIE if you want to get all new stuff, but any board you get now won't support Intel's new and awesome processor lineup. I would stay away from spending lots of cash on a 775 rig right now.

get a 939 board/cpu... here you have lots of options. single/dual core, AGP/pcie, single/dual channel...

your first option sounds best and its basicly what i was looking to do. how much do those processors go for?

New, quite a bit. Youll need to use your 7000B as itll be harder to find one with the retail sink.

I can give you a 3.0E for 120, C for 125. PM me if youre interested, I'm flexable.

There is a fellow who is selling P4P boards as well, i can give you his name in PM if intersted. He was selling a deluxe for 70, iirc, with all the retail stuff.
