single 6970 for 5760x1080 eyefinity?

so, my question is this, will this work out alright?

only really playing BC2, aion, starcraft 2, etc etc.... nothing too fancy, i just want it to run on medium in these games.

going to be overhauling my system around this summer when i get the money to a 2500k with 16gb of ram, etc etc.

also going to be buying these monitors really soon ( like next week or so)
 
That should be able to run those games on medium as you requested without an issue. Adding a second later on will allow near-max to max settings on them.
 
You should have the power to run games at modest settings in the games you listed and have playable frames. I have beeen able to run 6030 x 1200 actually very smoothly with two GTX 260 in SLi.:D
Starcraft may be tough...it's pretty demanding when the screen gets full.

Most DX9 games will be good, you'll be surprised.

I have found that triple monitor is best served by Crossfire.....of course you can't do Surround without SLi or the 590...;)

For some good data go over to widescreengamingforums and read their 6xxx Eyefyinity write-ups, they have a ton of good information.
 
Yes you will be able to play at 5760x1080. I do with my one little (very OC'd & overworked) 5870 ;)

Serously, you'll be find at +/-medium settings with the occasional allowance to go to high on some settings with some testing. Most important, you have 2GB VRam.

A second card you let you increase eyecandy.

yeah, the plan is to get a single 6970 after i buy these new monitors to replace my aging 5770's. then upgrade my system, then when i get some spare cash/sell off my old monitors i'll purchase another 6970 for CFX.

though im not sure if ill be able to do that with the mATX motherboard i want to use, so i might just have to splurge and get a 6990 >.>
 
A 6950 thats modded or a 6970 should work fine at that resolution. I've got the card listed below and it can max out games like BC2, Shogun or Civ 5 w/ MLAA on, but no other AA on and get 25-40 fps depending on the game at the default clock speed. Lower settings can get it up to 60, but I usually like a bit more eyecandy as long as I'm getting 30+ fps. So OC brings it to quite playable at max imo. Some games like BC2 I throw on 2x AA w/ the OC.



If your monitors are DP compatible I'd consider getting a Asus 6970 or the 6950 version to avoid the possibility of tearing. I never experienced any in landscape eyefinity, but I believe some users have. A reference 6950 teared like crazy in portrait eyefinity for me though. I've yet to hear of anyone complaining about tearing when wiring with all DP though.

Catalyst 11.4 preview drivers give a significant performance boost for me.
 
Just know that Starcraft 2 won't work on three screens, only on one. Blizzard considers it cheating and doesn't allow it.
 
Pretty much every other game that came out in the last 3 years works or can be modified/hacked to work in eyefinity though. SC2 was the one big exception I've seen.

yep, i know about it, i only play starcraft 2 casually, so it isnt that big of a deal if i cant use eyefinity on it.

plus im a super newb at it, so i'd rather have a window open on another screen showing me the upgrade paths or something.
